I am a licensed educator, with teaching and tutoring experience. I have a BA in History, a Social Studies Comprehensive teaching licenses in two states and a fingerprint clearance card. I am currently in my second year of graduate school at ASU, getting an MSW.
My subject areas of specialty are in the humanities, such as U.S. and world history, geography, government, psychology, and English. Additionally, I specialize in tutoring for writing such as essays and research papers in any format.
I also have extensive experience in high school English, and Social Studies A.P. exams, as well as English proficiency exams.
My job is to aid the student in their learning journey. I believe that all students want to learn, and all students (like all “people”) become frustrated when they do not understand something. I believe it is my job to help my students master their learning objective in the way that they learn as a unique individual. When learning becomes relevant, understanding becomes real. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken the Praxis exam and scored in the 98th percentile in the reading and writing sections. This exam is about strategy, much as other standardized texts. These skills can be taught.
As a certified teacher, I know the importance of being an organized student. I use my teaching skills to help students get their school materials into a unique order that is tailored to their individual learning style and personality. Each student is an individual with unique learning needs, so their study and organizational skills should be as unique as they are.
I have experience guiding students, using their own unique skill set in achieving both studying and organizational success. As a former classroom teacher, I have experience teaching study skills on an individual and whole-class basis. I have lead discussions and study sessions based on material organization as well as test taking strategies.
