About Jennifer

MY PHILOSOPHY:
The longer I have taught, the more I've seen that students build confidence as they build skills. I love helping students become more confident, independent learners.

MY RECORD:
I have a BA in English, an MA in the Humanities, and am currently completing my PhD, also in English. With a sterling academic record and years of teaching experience, I know what it takes for students to succeed in any environment. I have about six years of combined experience as a writing tutor in college learning centers, as well as ten years of experience as a university professor, teaching writing and literature. I have taught courses covering essay writing, research skills, argumentation and rhetoric, British literature, American literature, Shakespeare, world literature, the short story, and more. Whether you are a high school student looking to improve your writing skills, a college student who needs specific guidance in a literature class, or an adult seeking support as you re-enter academic life, I am here to help.

MY METHOD:
I begin each session by making sure I understand your learning goals, as well as what your instructor wants. To make this easier, please come prepared with all relevant course materials! I'll focus the session toward building skills that will stay with you, beyond one assignment or exam.

I am friendly, helpful, and really listen to my students. I recognize that each student learns differently, and I'm experienced in quickly assessing and adapting my tutoring style to meet student needs.

Don't hesitate to contact me! I would love to work with you and help you reach your potential as a learner.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
