Pepperdine University (French)
Hi, I'm Claire B. I started to love French when I got tutored by an older woman who inspired me. She helped me build my confidence by speaking with me from the beginning. I tutored French at Pepperdine University, and I hope to be an inspiration to students elementary school through university level and pass on the joy of being able to speak another language.
Earlier this summer I visited a local high school, Areté Academy, and helped their French teacher with her French classes. I was able to speak with her entirely in French during the week I worked with her and encourage her students to speak the language more often as they learned it. At my university I tutored athletes who often had to miss classes, and I gained experience re-teaching them the material. I am excited for the opportunity to continue tutoring.
I'm here to help whatever level of the language you find yourself! I'm a huge believer in learning through speaking. I took three years of French in high school, but because I had no one to practice it with, it wasn't until I joined the conversation group on campus at my university that the language clicked for me! Research shows students need language mentors who will encourage them to speak without correcting all of their mistakes, and I hope I can be this kind of person to someone who has the end goal of being able to speak the language.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took three years of French in high school and completed up through the 252 level in college as a French major. I also tutored French through my university's Athletic Department last year.
