About Tim

Greetings,

My name is Tim, and I am delighted to have this opportunity on WyzAnt to tell you a bit about myself, the subjects I teach, and my approach to them. I have 9 years of experience both in tutoring and teaching, covering students as young as 8 (Latin) and as old as 25 (Rhetoric). I have also taught integrated courses consisting of History, Literature, Religion, and Philosophy to students in 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th grades.

In addition to several years of online tutoring, I have taught for 7 years in formal school settings. I have to say that what I love about tutoring is the opportunity to work more informally with students who want to learn rather than merely sit in a classroom soaking up information so as to get grades.

Regarding languages, Latin and Greek are not just "subjects" for me, but disciplines that I love and enjoy working with immensely. With both languages, my goal is to integrate the study of the grammar and mechanics with as much study of Roman and Greek culture as is possible. In my experience, this gives students a much richer experience and helps them appreciate the languages far better.

My undergraduate and graduate education in Liberal Arts and Humanities has exposed me to a wide variety of literature and grammar studies, and enables me to construct courses of study that are cross-disciplinary rather than being more limited in scope. My goal working with students is always for them to come away with a more full understanding of what they have been studying because it has been illuminated from multiple angles and its connections with other disciplines explored.

Please contact me for more information and to schedule lessons!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

My educational background includes a significant element of biblical and theological training. I have taken general theology courses and period-specific courses such as Medieval Theology. I have also had several courses on specific biblical topics, such as the doctrine of Christ, the Epistles of John, and the Old Testament monarchy.

Greek

I have two years of formal study of New Testament Greek on the undergraduate level. I have several years of additional study on my own, extending my experience of the language to Classical dialects. I have taught Classical (Attic) Greek on the 11th grade level.
