About Virginia

Hello! My name is Virginia and I currently work at Arizona State University as an academic advisor. I just completed my Masters at the University of Nebraska and am looking to get connected to Arizona and the community here. What better way to do this than to become a tutor and assist students in their academic goals?! I love to read and write, so my expertise is within English, but I also am able to tutor in History (mainly U.S. and classics like Roman and Greek mythology) and the Social Sciences (sociology, psychology, anthropology).

I have tutored students between the ages of 6-19 and have babysat for more than 10 years. I also have instructed college level courses on student success and study skills for the past year, and plan on continuing to do so. I enjoy working with students and aspire to be a college professor in the near future, that is, once I decide on a PhD program. I love getting students excited about what they hope to do in the future, and I believe I can encourage students to complete the milestones that are currently in front of them academically, and help them see that future in the distant horizon.

I look forward to working with you!

I am proficient in English and have always had a passion for writing and reading. I also take pride in my public speaking skills as I have spent the majority of my career speaking to large groups.
I have tutored in the areas of English before and feel confident in being able to provide successful tools for your academic needs.

I have always been obsessed with the Greek and Roman classics. I obtained a minor in Classics during my time at the University of Kansas as well as read more than 15 books on the subject during my free time.

If you want an energetic, passionate and fun tutor for your academic goals, do not hesitate to reach out to me! I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Handwriting

I believe that I have legible handwriting and have written by hand for more than 15 years. I also have experience with writing in cursive, which seems to be disappearing from elementary education today. I feel confident in tutoring handwriting.
