Marlain is an excellent tutor. She knows both Arabic and English very well which serves the student in the best capacity. She is clear and very patient which I appreciate. She doesn't mind repeating a sentence or word a few times. Finally, Marlain is dependable and communicates very clearly about goals and expectations. She will work with you to develop a plan that works best for you.
I was very impressed with Marlain's knowledge and teaching abilities during my session with her. I have been studying Arabic for 4 years now on my own and, as a result, have a knowledge base that does not follow any particular curriculum. I have tried several tutors in the past, but the unevenness of my knowledge in speaking, reading, writing, and grammar made it difficult to work with them.
Marlain took the time to delve thoroughly into my understanding of the Arabic language so that she would be able to craft an education plan that was tailored to my needs. The materials that she has provided me to work on hit some critical areas in which my understanding is lacking while not wasting time going over areas I already understand.
Also, Marlain took it upon herself to find activities that fit my needs, whereas other tutors have relied on me to provide the work. I cannot tell you how much this helps when you already have a full-time job and a family that demand your time. I feel that with continued work with Marlain, I will be able to get the teaching I need and achieve my goal of reaching Arabic fluency.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
