I have experience tutoring math for a wide range of ages, including grades 1-12 as well as college level students. I am a great tutor because I can understand which areas a student is having difficulties with, and focus on those.
The math subjects I am able to tutor include Elementary Math, Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, all levels of Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Statistics.
I worked as an Instructional Aide for 3 semesters at Arizona State University in Calculus courses for Engineers. In addition to tutoring, I gave weekly quizzes on the material and kept grade records for approximately 250 students per semester.
I currently work at a math tutoring center for grades 1-12. I really enjoy the variety of subjects and ages that I am able to tutor. It has also helped me gain experience with younger students. The center includes many different types of students; those who are behind in math, those wanting to get ahead, those needing to focus on a specific area, homework help, and test preparation. Melissa B was easily able to assist my daughter with an IB math (trigonometry) chapter. As well, she was able to relate to my daughter in a natural way, which made it easy for my daughter to understand and learn from her.
After several sessions I feel that Melissa is really helping me and has to be one of the best tutors I have ever had. She explains everything with enough patience that I can understand.
We contacted this tutor to help my daughter with Geometry. She came to our home on a Sunday one time and my daughter liked her and her teaching style. I asked her if she could come back Friday and once a week after that and she said sure. She never showed up, didn't call or email. She was also seemed very disengaged and distant. I should have seen it coming. When I first contacted her it was Wednesday 9/4 and asked her if she could come on Saturday 9/6. She got back to me on Saturday to let me know she couldn't come but could so Sunday in the afternoon, so I asked her if she could do 3pm and never confirmed she was coming so I thought she wouldn't show up but she did. The next Friday my daughter waited for her to get help on a study guide for next week's test and she never even let us know she will not be coming.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
