Pima Community College,
Teaching math to Junior High and High School students has been one of my favorite things for 23 years. I have tutored several brothers and sisters of former students also. I have taught 5th grade math to Geometry. I have also instructed students in Study Skills, English Language, American History, Geography, Government and Economics. I look forward to helping any student who wants to be helped in math or any of the previously mentioned subjects.
Although I do not have a teaching certificate, I do have several people to call for references. God has given me a passion for teaching and I hope to serve Him by using the gifts He has given me:) Teaching math to Junior High and High School students has been one of my favorite things for 23 years. Our daughter needed one-on-one help to basically take Algebra II over the summer to help her not only catch up with the rest of her peers, but to also walk her through the course to make sure she understood the rules/concepts. Susan was exactly what we needed. She came on very short notice; she listened to what our daughter needed to accomplish and came up with the game plan. She has been very patient with her while still reminding what the end goal is for to help keep her motivated. She provides daily updates with her progress. Susan comes in with a great attitude, we hear her give praises to our daughter when she works out the problem. An added bonus is that she is not only very qualified to teach the subject, but she also has taught from the latest textbook being used by our daughter's school.
We feel very fortunate to have discovered WyzAnt. We found our perfect fit for a teacher with Susan and we could not be happier.
Just an update to add to our previous review as our daughter has completed the competency test that she and her tutor, Susan, has been working so hard for this summer. Not only did she pass, but she aced the test! The principle, the vice principle, the guidance counselor were all happy for her results stating that they never had anyone test so high from a summer study course. They said the drive and support to achieve those type of results are rare. It just made me appreciate our tutor Susan and this program so much more. If your child needs help, this is the one-on-one help you are looking for. Thank you Susan for your hard work, support and dedication!
Susan requested classroom notes to be emailed to her so she could understand what was being taught in the classroom.
Susan, was very patient and helpful to our son on explaining proofs for geometry. He had a chapter test the next day and she explained the proofs in a way that he could understand. She was very easy to contact and responded to our request for a tutor immediately and was able to schedule a session right away. Thank you Susan!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Algebra I for at least 20 years using the Saxon and Abeka curricula.
I have taught Algebra II to high school students for four years and tutored during two summers to help some students receive their credits. I have used the Saxon and Abeka curricula.
Knowing the Bible outline and the main events and topics helps students relate to literature when Bible references are made. I have been in a Bible believing churches since I was 13 years old. I have taught Sunday school and lessons. I have also taught Bible classes and chapel lessons at Christian schools for 23 years. I have also earned several certificates for taking various Bible courses through the churches.
I have taught 5th grade math at a private school. I believe because I have taught higher maths, that I am more aware of the need to teach certain concepts more in depth and sometimes differently than a curriculum explains. Some students don't understand a math concept the first way it's taught so they need a different approach to get it. I am very aware of the need for students to get the basics before they more on into the higher maths.
I taught 8th grade English for one year at a school in Tucson.
I have taught geometry for at least 5 years in a high school setting. I tutored over two summers students who were behind and needed their geometry credit to graduate.
I have taught prealgrebra for at least 15 years. I enjoy helping students get ready for Algebra in a manner that gets them excited about math and helps them to help themselves in understanding the wonders of math.
Study skills is helping a student know the best way for he/she to study based on his/her learning style. It could include for example writing out the spelling word while spelling out loud several times. It could include coming up with an acronym to help remember a list. There are many different learning styles and many ways to use tools based on those styles to help a student learn and remember.
I taught Studies Skills classes to 6th graders several years ago. Parents told me that they didn't learn some of the things I taught the 6th graders until they were in college!
