I have been a working travel journalist for 25 years, contributing more than 200 book and magazine covers to a wide variety of travel publications like Arizona Highways, Nat. Geo. Adventure, etc. I shoot all aspects of adventure and destination travel photography, and teach photo workshops for several companies. My main territory is the American West and the Pacific Rim, and I can share both locations and photo techniques to strengthen the technical aspects of your shooting, and heighten the emotional impact of your work. I work with both film and digital shooters, and show how I work with digital post processing programs like Lightroom and Photoshop. Kerrick was a great tutor. He worked with me and showed me some basic techniques on my camera because I am a beginner. He also made sure I got some cool shots from the day- of cactus. He is very knowledgeable about photography and I am confident he would be able to train anyone at whatever level they are at. He is also very knowledgeable with Photoshop so he'll be able to train on that as well. He was patient and nice. You can't go wrong with Kerrick as a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I use Photoshop CS6/CC and Lightroom 5 to process RAW files for print publications. I don't do major compositing or layering projects, but can show how to quickly and accurately optimize your RAW or Jpeg files and establish a workflow to process your images, and to archive them as well. I also can show how to prep files for printing, including sharpening.
I teach both digital capture and film based photographic techniques, from small point and shoot to DSLR's and medium format cameras. I teach composition, location scouting, lighting, editing and post-processing as well. I seek to balance photo technique and aesthetic considerations, to find and hone the student's skills, style and push them to make images with impact.
