I have been an elementary teacher for over 35 years. I have taught every grade from 2nd to 8th grade in all subject areas. I love 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades especially in Reading, Spelling, and Social Studies. I have also been tutoring for over 25 years. I love tutoring students. For me, meeting the parents and the students who are struggling and getting to know them is such a rewarding experience. I have helped so many students, especially in reading and phonics. These students have left my tutoring sessions and began to read and feel more confident in their dealing at school. I am able to help most students struggling in reading and if your child needs this help I am the tutor for you. I have been trained in Orton Gillingham phonics and reading program. This is a fantastic program and it really gets to the core of a students problems. I have been an elementary teacher for over 35 years. I was looking for an Orton-Gillingham trained tutor to help my daughter, who was struggling to read. Linda evaluated her and found areas that needed help. She then worked with my daughter in ways that our school never did. As a result, her reading and spelling have improved greatly.
Linda has a lot of experience, is patient and it is obvious that she is knowledgeable in helping struggling learners.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been trained in the Orton Gilingham Dyslexic Program. This is the program that I use with all of the students I tutor that have reading difficulties. This is no different then a Reading, Language, Phonic problems to those in the WyzAnt Tutoring program. You should not separate a language problem as a Special Needs. This is a reading problem for many students that may have not been diagnosed as Dyslexic. I do my own teacher testing when I first meet the child to determine their reading needs. Many parents are not aware of the fact that Dyslexia is inherited by 99% of the children that have it! Then you must go to a specialized testing to actually get it Diagnosed as Dyslexic and most parents are not able to pay $1250 to $2000 to get it diagnosed.
I have an Elementary Certificate with Arizona for K-8th grade. I have been a Mesa Public School teacher for 25 years. Thank you.
I have been trained in Orton Gillingham, a very well known researched based program in 1995. I have been working with students since that time and successfully helping them read through this program. Reading and Phonics are intertwined.
I have taken classes and tutored children in Study Skills Strategies. This is a given when you are a retired teacher of 38 years.
