Hi! I’m John and I want to be your tutor, to help you achieve your goals in your course or in your preparation for a standardized test. I have over 35 years of experience teaching Biology and A & P at the high school and college level. I have a Masters in Biology Education and have worked with all levels of students from remedial to AP in high schools, and Biology and Nursing Majors at the college and university level. I have attended and held many workshops in Biology teaching at the National Science Teachers Association and the American Biology Teachers national conferences. I have been a Woodrow Wilson Summer Institute Fellow in Biotechnology, as well as a summer intern for the American Physiological Society (at Yale University) and for the American Association of Immunologists (at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School). I have served as an item writer for ETS for both the AP Biology and SAT II Biology Exams, as well as an AP Biology Reader and an SAT II Beta testing site.
I do not have a set formula for tutoring, but I tailor my sessions to the individual needs of each student, in order to maximize our time together and achieve the tutoring goals that a student has. I pride myself on getting to know each student, and earning their trust, so that they feel comfortable in asking questions about material that they do not comprehend fully. My sessions are interactive and I work to ensure understanding as well as increasing a student’s critical thinking and analytical skills. I welcome any input from parents that they feel may contribute to the success of their child.
While I no longer serve as a classroom teacher, I greatly enjoy the opportunity to continue to work with students to share my enthusiasm and love of Biology and A & P, and have helped many students further their understanding and career goals.
In addition to tutoring, I enjoy watching sports, and reading, particularly about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.
Passionate and Patient Tutor
I have been working with John for eight months on AP Biology and I always feel very confident about the material after our sessions. For me, science has always been one of my strong suits but coming into AP Bio. I realized that I can still be challenged with a subject that I am passionate about. Having a tutor like John has taught me that feeling challenged is a good thing and that with one on one time concepts can become less challenging. John and I work online and I find that writing questions and drawing diagrams helps me visualize what we are discussing. Anything that I need help with, whether it be a whole chapter or one concept, John always takes his time explaining each and every part. Sometimes he gets very passionate about what he is discussing, but he has always encouraged me to interrupt with clarifying questions. If you are looking for a tutor that is open to questions, learns to understand how to best explain concepts to you, and always has a smile on their face, then John is for you.Mark, 32 lessons with John
Our son took grade 9 bio with John. He said that he learned 2 weeks of material in just one hour and John's review of the materials were much clearer than his school teacher. Thank you John! We will definitely continue to get lessons from him.Berna, 3 lessons with John

Very knowledgeable tutor!
Amazing first lesson! We have scheduled and are looking forward to future lessons. My daughter has a 4.0 GPA, and is getting ready for Biology subject test, but she took biology class 2 years ago and was nervous to start. John found the right approach and sessions are very productive! Thank you!Olga, 4 lessons with John
Outstanding teaching skills
John is kind and versatile. He knows the subject matter in Biology and is remarkably able to teach different levels. I initially enlisted his help for my daughter who was taking an extremely challenging Biology class at an Ivy league university. She was so impressed with his ability to explain the material that I asked him to help my son who was a 9th grader taking Intro Biology. John was not only able to adapt his teaching method to different subject levels and learning styles, he was also willing to tackle any task whether it was a problem set, lab report, exam prep or just reviewing the material. He is flexible, often meeting at the last minute before an exam, for longer time than scheduled, or at times which clearly were not ideal for him (e.g. 5:30 am in his time zone). He produced excellent results as both students ended the semester with stellar grades. I am thankful we found John and recommend him without reservation.Laura, 30 lessons with John
Patient, Understanding, and Experienced Tutor
John helped me prepare for my final Anatomy and Physiology (high school course) retake! After a week-long of preparation, he left me feeling extremely confident. He provided me with effective study strategies and solidified the material. He was extremely helpful, answered my questions, but most importantly he thoroughly explained the material and always made sure I understood what was going on. Because of this, I saw a huge increase in my test score. I strongly recommend seeking John's help if you are struggling or need an extra source of help!Deborah, 4 lessons with John
If I could give John more stars I would fill up this page! I am truly grateful to have found him. He has been tutoring my 16-year-old son with ASD in AP Biology for a few months. As I walk around and stop to listen, I always leave with a smile because I can hear how nurturing, patient, and dedicated he is in helping my son succeed. He is BEYOND prepared to challenge him and target any area of weakness he might have. And with the amount of experience he has on this subject, I know I’ve found the perfect tutor for my son. I highly recommend him! Thank you John!Denisse, 36 lessons with John

Great help! Highly recommend!
John is an amazing tutor. I had been struggling with anatomy and physiology for months and when I started seeing him once a week my grade started to improve. I never would have passed the class without his help. Highly recommend him for any student struggling in anatomy!Jamie, 3 lessons with John
John is the most amazing tutor. Extremely patient and thorough. I was concerned about finding a good tutor in this subject matter (Anatomy and Physiology) at a college level but John has an amazing background in teaching this subject and was able to help my student not only "learn" the material but actually "GRASP" what he was saying and be able to restate the material in her own words. True gain of knowledge. I would recommend John as a tutor for any student wanting to get a better understanding of these subjects. Thanks, John! Job well done!T, 7 lessons with John
