My name is Dustin and I'm currently a student at Arizona State University with a major in Biochemistry, and a minor in Spanish. I enjoy studying math and science topics, and I graduated with honors from Red Mountain High School with college credit in Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry. At ASU I've received credit in classes such as Calculus, Physics, Biology, Organic Chemistry , Physical Chemistry, and Biochemistry. I'm a Pre-Dental student, and recently scored a 22 on the Dental Admission Test (>95 percentile), which covers a wide range of topics including biology, chemistry, and mathematics.

As a student, I've worked hard to develop an understanding of these topics, and I recognize what it takes to get there. For this reason, I definitely enjoy helping others to understand different concepts within these subjects and showing them effective study methods. It's also very important to me that those who I tutor not just memorize vocabulary and topics, but actually understand what they're learning. This way the information sticks, rather than being quickly forgotten. As a student, I've always been one to ask why and how things work the way they do. As a tutor, I strive to help students understand exactly that, so they can have a firm grasp of the information they're learning.

Between High School and College, I lived in Chile for two years as a religious missionary. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with and teach many people from different backgrounds. I learned Spanish in a very natural way, through immersion in the language and culture, and I was able learn and develop effective study methods. After reaching a fluent level of Spanish, I had the opportunity to work with many new missionaries and help them to learn Spanish efficiently. This experience definitely boosted my desire to help others and share the knowledge I have. I really enjoy seeing people learn and progress, and especially when I'm a part of that.

As a Biochemistry major at ASU, I've received credit for Calculus I and II, which rely heavily on concepts from Algebra, Geometry and Precalculus. I also worked as a math tutor for Mesa Public Schools, and helped students receive credit in summer courses for Algebra I and Geometry. Within this tutoring program, I had the chance to work with students between the ages of 15 and 18 who had struggled and fallen behind in these topics. My main goal as a tutor was to help these students not only work out a problem, but to understand the topic and apply that knowledge to future problems. In this way, their dependency on me as a tutor would decrease, and their confidence would increase.

I'm part of the Spanish heritage program at ASU, and I've received credit for Spanish 202, 315, 316, 319, 400, 412 and 417. Having lived in Chile for two years, I also was able to communicate with native speakers on a daily basis. I also had the opportunity of providing free English classes to non-English speakers, which were taught in a small classroom setting. My focus in these classes was to have the students practice speaking and interacting in English as much as possible.

I'm very flexible, and I'm happy to work with you and your schedule. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

Spanish

After high school, I lived in Chile for two years where I had the opportunity to speak Spanish daily with natives. In this way I was able to learn the language in a natural way, and improve my accent constantly. I also studied Spanish grammar nearly every day, and developed advanced reading and writing skills. Since then, I have gone on to study Spanish as a minor in the heritage program at Arizona State University, obtaining credit in various composition, grammar, and linguistics courses. Because of my positive experience in making Spanish an important part of my life, I have a strong desire to help others do the same.

Algebra 1

As a high school and college student I've worked hard to earn credit through Calculus II, which is culmination of many math topics including Algebra and Trigonometry. During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to work for Mesa Public Schools as a tutor, working with students in Algebra and Geometry courses. In this capacity, I was able to help them be successful in their respective courses and gain confidence in their ability to succeed in future courses. I especially enjoyed this experience as it allowed me to work one-on-one with the students, and see their progression.

Very Good Tutor

Dustin is teaching my son Chemistry and he is very patient and helps my son understand each concept really well. He always shows up on time and has a deep understanding of the subject. Without him, my son would have not done as well as he has so far. My son was struggling in Chemistry and with the help of Dustin, he feels more confident about the subject matter. I am very grateful for all his help. I am planning to continue with him for the rest of the school year.

Very nice and knowledgable tutor.

Dustin helped my daughters with algebra 1 and 2. He was kind and patient and helped explain everything in different ways so that they could understand. They were struggling with homework and he helped them complete it and feel confident that they could do it on their own.
