I love learning for the sake of learning - we are made to learn and know!
I am a husband, father and second grade teacher. I am excited about learning at any level. As a lifetime learner myself, my wife jokes about the number of books I have and am constantly reading at any given time.
What I love about teaching is helping people to become more fully alive, as it is part of who we are to learn and know. In my daily job, I enjoy helping young students both in the classroom setting and one-to-one. I do some tutoring for my students outside of classroom time and also act as a mentor to them, not just in academics but also in the fullness of their person including encouraging them in the life of virtue so that they become virtuous men and women. Every day of school, I engage the full person in each student and I find this of utmost importance.
During tutoring, I would take the same approach. To learn for the sake of learning but also to do so virtuously. I find that this is, unfortunately, a rather "unique" approach to teaching, whereas it should be the norm.
In addition to being a second grade teacher, I also coach football and have taught people on all levels - middle school, high school, and adults. Much of my training is also in philosophy, anthropology and theology.
I look forward to speaking with you to see if I can assist you or your student in growing as a person!
I teach second grade grammar including Spalding (Phonics).
We teach and test our students in Common Core.
I teach all subjects in second grade and am comfortable tutoring K-6 in all subjects with the exception of math for which I can tutor K-3.
I have extensive training in Spalding (Phonics) and we use this every day with our students in school.
Do you want for yourself or your student to grow not only in academics but also as a virtuous person? I look forward to hearing from you to discuss the possibility of us meeting. I love learning for the sake of learning - we are made to learn and know!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I played football myself, have a love for football, and also coach middle school football for Great Hearts Academy.
I have been teaching this subject at the grade school level for two years at one of the Great Hearts Academies. I have also had a great deal of training using Susan Wise Bauer's program which is geared toward individual work but adapted for the classroom.
My master's degree included the study of philosophy. The proper understanding of theology hinges on the proper understanding of those things which can be known by reason. I have surveyed the great philosophical conversation, beginning with Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, through St. Thomas Aquinas, to Kant and Hume.
As a second grade teacher for Great Hearts Academy in Glendale, Arizona-- I am highly trained in Spalding which is a form of Phonics. We have days of training each summer and continue training throughout the year. And I teach it on a daily basis to my students.
The art of reading a text and comprehending the author's intent is a particular love. Fluency and comprehension play an integral role in our pursuit of intellectual excellence. Plumbing the text for deeper meaning require continued growth in reading fluency.
As a teacher at Great Hearts it is a fundamental part of our curriculum to help students increase in their reading fluency. As we continue to explore the great works of literature in an effort to elevate the human mind.
