About David

I work as a professional guitarist/vocalist, and as an adjunct professor of Philosophy and World Religions. I have a BA in German, many credits in English, especially Linguistics, and an MA in Philosophy. I lived in Belgium and Holland for six months where I played guitar with a gospel group, and learnt Dutch. I also dabble in other languages such as Ancient Greek and French.

I have an MA in Philosophy and teach Philosophy at the community college level. I excel in helping people to challenge their own belief systems as well as to understand other belief systems.

I've taught ESL at Berlitz Language School and have taken graduate level classes on the subject. I teach World Religions at the college level, and have studied the Bible for many years, including reading parts of the New Testament in the original Greek. I not only understand the text, but understand various traditions/interpretations of the text.

I'm a professional guitarist, playing different styles at various places. I'm also very patient at teaching guitar and bass.

I'm very approachable and enjoy learning as well as teaching.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I teach World Religions at the community college level. This includes Judaism and Christianity, both of which use the Bible as a primary text. I have taken college courses in religion. I have also studied the Biblical texts on my own, including reading some of the New Testament in the original Greek.

English

I minored in English at ASU, and also took many graduate level classes in English. My undergraduate degree was German, and studying another language gives a better understanding of how grammar works. I've taught English at the college level.

ESL/ESOL

I've taken graduate classes in English, and have taught ESL.

Grammar

I minored in English at ASU, and took graduate level classes in English. Since I also studied Latin, German, and Greek, I have a good understanding of grammar in general. I have taught English at the college level, and have taught ESL.

Guitar

I've been a professional guitarist on and off for the past thirty years or so. I have a great understand of harmony/chord structure, as well as bass lines and melodies. I have given guitar lessons at various times and am giving bass lessons now.

Philosophy
