About Michelle

After graduating college, I was hired as a support teacher where I planned and conducted phonics and reading lessons to kinder and first grade students. I also taught after-school intervention for students who were struggling in math and reading. The following year, I taught a program called Read 180 that focuses on 3-5th grade students who are reading far below grade level.

For the past two years I have taught first grade.

I have been working in elementary school classrooms for 9 years. I have worked in all grade levels. I began my teaching career be working with students in small groups as well as one on one. I worked with students who were struggling in certain areas as well as students who were performing at a higher level and needed to be challenged. I did this in Kindergarten-5th grade. I also conducted reading groups for 4th and 5th grade students.

On top of my teaching experience, I was also a nanny for the same family for 6 years where I helped with homework each night.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I have worked in early elementary classrooms for nine years. I have my teaching certificate in two states which requires you pass phonics tests. I taught a reading program for struggling readers which was a phonics specific program. I have taught first grade full time for two years which is heavily phonics based.

Reading

I taught phonics and reading to small groups and one on one in San Diego for 5 years. And I taught a reading program for struggling readers for a year before moving to Arizona. This is my second year teaching 1st grade in Arizona
