About Winnie

My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. I have been a special education teacher for 16 years. I believe all students can learn and I find ways to reach all students. I have helped hundreds of students reaching their potential and soar in their educational journey.

I specialize in tutoring all subjects at the elementary level as well as Algebra I, social skills, and study skills. One of my goals is keeping my students challenged, but not frustrated. I assign homework to practice skills that were taught and provide informal assessments and progress reports.

I often ask for feedback to strengthen my lessons with students. Although I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I am flexible with time and I offer makeup classes.

To ensure that students focus during learning, I recommend having a quiet and comfortable space while working with me. This can be at your home or a public library, however, I am happy to travel to another location if that is more convenient for the students.

I look forward to hear from you and helping your student success in his/her studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have a bachelor degree in Psychology and a master degree in Special Education. I am a special education in the Gilbert District for 16 years. I have a teacher certificate in both general education and special education. I teach many children study skills everyday on test taking strategy, note taking strategy, text reading strategy, and organizational strategy. Some of the strategies I feel is important.
1. Learn to focus while you work. Turn off the phone, music, and other distractions.
2. Always do your homework. Record the assignments you have before you leave class.
3. Write it down! Take notes in class and as you read.
4. Get in the habit of quizzing yourself as you study.
5. Don’t try to cram. Keeping up is far easier than frantically trying to catch up.
6. Make and use flashcards.
7. Get organized and stay that way.
8. Believe in yourself. Have confidence that you can achieve your dreams.
9. Ask for help when you need it.
10. Read the test first and follow directions.

The most important one - Set small goals and work to achieve them.
