About Stephanie

Hello! I am a kind, gentle, patient individual who loves to teach and lead others into greater learning. I have a passion for education and would really enjoy sharing that passion through tutoring. My Bachelor's degree is in Sociology from Arizona State University, and my Master's degree is in Education from Ashford University, with a specialization in Assessment and Measurement. I recently had the opportunity to teach a Sociology 101 course during the Fall of 2014 and into the Spring of 2015 as adjunct faculty for Rio Salado College. It was an amazing opportunity, but I think I may enjoy tutoring even more because I would have a better chance to tailor my teaching to each specific student.

I am looking to tutor others in the subjects of math, reading, writing, the social sciences, and sports. I hold closely to the principles of differentiation and feel that it is the teacher's or tutor's job to teach, and to adjust the teaching style to the student's learning style and needs. I think each person and each student has important strengths and personality qualities that must be embraced and utilized in the teaching process. I am very excited for the opportunity to help others learn and to share my passion for education through tutoring, and I am looking forward to meeting you and helping you learn and grow more fully into the student and person you were meant to become.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I played basketball for several years growing up, starting around 5th grade and ending my sophomore year of high school. My freshman and sophomore years of high school I was on the Junior Varsity team. I also played in a recreational league as an adult in 2012 (two seasons).

Football

I have played several seasons of flag football through recreational and intramural sports. In elementary school, I played one season of recreational flag football (as possibly the only girl in the league). I played two seasons of intramural football at Oklahoma Baptist University (where I was attending at the time), the fall of 2007 and the fall of 2008. I also played in an adult recreational flag football league in 2012 (two seasons). I would like to become a high school PE teacher and I think getting some tutoring time in for the sports I am most familiar with would be great experience.

Sociology

I am qualified to tutor in Sociology because I have a BA in Sociology from Arizona State University and taught a Sociology 101 course as adjunct faculty for Rio Salado College during the Fall of 2014 and into the Spring of 2015. In order to qualify to teach a Sociology class with Rio Salado, I could have either a graduate degree in the subject or a graduate degree in any subject with at least 24 upper-level undergraduate credits in Sociology. I have an MA in Education from Ashford University, and 24 upper-level undergraduate credits in Sociology from Arizona State University, so I qualified to teach Sociology for Rio Salado College.

Tennis

I have experience playing tennis recreationally with my father, who helped inspire in me a fondness for the game. I also played with my former partner, who I helped teach the sport to. I am hoping to become a PE teacher and I love sports and teaching, and I would like to get all the experience I can sharing my passion for and skill in sports!
