In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
ADHD is a common behavioral disorder that affects school-age children.
Kids with ADHD act without thinking, are hyperactive, and have trouble focusing. They may understand what's expected of them but have trouble following through because they can't sit still, pay attention, or attend to details.
ADHD symptoms are present over a longer period of time and occur in different settings. They impair a child's ability to function socially, academically, and at home.
My background and experience with ADHD includes the following; school counselor and academic advisor role - helping students with ADHD manage his or her behavior, provide academic interventions to meet the needs of students who may have difficulties staying on task, understanding new concepts or developing appropriate social skills. In my graduate studies, I studied school counseling and mental health counseling. I have training in special education and served as a interim special education teacher for one year. Received training in the area of academic interventions and assessments for students with disabilities through my recent graduate program in School Psychology.
Writing skills are essential for all grade levels First grade through high school and in college. Essay writing is common in middle school and high school. In writing, there are five stages of essay writing: Interpretation of the question, research, planning, writing and revisions.
Problems that often emerge in writing include; irrelevance, weak structure, insufficient evidence and examples to support the written work. Lack of fluency between paragraphs, and inconsistent arguments are often found in written work.
There are several writing styles but for most students in high school, MLA style of writing is most common.College writing may include either MLA or APA style of writing. I am familiar with both styles of writing; APA and MLA.
Developing essential writing skills can be accomplished with the following strategies;
Provide daily time for students to write. Teach students to use the writing process for a variety of purposes and strategies for the various components of the writing process. Teaching students techniques for writing effectively include; becoming fluent with handwriting, spelling, sentence construction, typing.
