Hello to all life long learners!
I'm a first generation German immigrant, and English is my second language since kindergarten. My father was a career Air Force officer, and we lived all over the world, in places like Germany, Thailand, Canada, and across the U.S. Arizona is my adopted home, and I love it here. I am passionate about all forms of historical study- Arizona, American and World history- and have completed 53 graduate hours in history and pedagogy from ASU and Rio Salado College. I currently hold ADE state highly qualified (HQ) Certificates in German, Business, and History, two additional Business CTE's, and I also coached the Campo Verde HS swim team from 2010-2012. I teach at the high school level in Tempe and absolutely love it. I find that my experiences, both working in the restaurant/hotel business for 30 years and my international exposures, are conducive to my teaching style- which could be described as allegorical, compare/contrasting, story telling, and real-life applications in all fields. I am available by appointment after school and on the weekends. Hello to all life long learners!

Initially I was worried about a 2 hour session that included a 15 year old young man who is not ready to apply himself to his education. I hesitated to ask Shawn how the session went because I already knew he would say he didn't like it and we would be back to square one to improve his failing AP World History grade. Surprisingly, Shawn said the session went by quickly and proceeded to recall the many historical events that were discussed during his session. There are never any complaints from Shawn on tutoring days. We have continued regular sessions with Dean and I am happy to say the AP World History grade is steadily improving.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have lived in countries (overseas) where the prevailing religious beliefs are not Judeo-Christian, as in the U.S. Thailand has a rich Hindu heritage, seen as the wellspring of their Buddhist beliefs, and the two belief systems are intermingled, similar to how Christianity is superimposed onto Judaism in the West. Islam is also prevalent in the southern part of the country, as well as in the Malay peninsula. These experiences have carried over into my world history studies, both in my graduate and private research efforts.
My current qualifications are a B.S. in Justice Studies, with 25+ undergraduate history hours, and 13+ graduate hours of history/ religion with the SHRPS (School of Historical, Religious, and Philosophical Studies program at Arizona State University, in addition to 52 additional graduate hours from the Rio Salado College of Education. I hold 'Highly Qualified' certificates from ADE (AZ Dept. of Education) in History, German, and Business, in addition to my secondary teacher's certificate.
Finally, I am passionate about my historical study, and I often find it is intimately intertwined with religious beliefs and cause/effect relationships across time and all geographical areas.
