CWU (Secondary Math Teach)
My name is Melissa and I am a former teacher. Although I love to teach/tutor and I am really good at it, my family needs to come first. I have to tell you BEFORE you request tutoring I am ONLY tutoring from my home. If you are willing to meet at my house I would love to help! If not then please, please contact another tutor. I was a Math teacher in Washington state before moving to AZ. I have not taught full time for a few years now as I spend time raising my family, but I do want to keep using my math skills to help others with theirs because I love teaching. I taught at Central Washington University for 11 quarters while getting my secondary math degree, subbed for 3 years in grades 3-12 and for 3 years I taught 8th and 9th grade math. I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry. I taught at Sylvan Learning Center I am trained in most of their programs which include reading, math, study skills, ACT and SAT prep. I have taught at two centers. One in WA state for 3 years and I taught in Mesa/Gilbert until my son was born. I have been a certified math teacher for 9 years and teaching in some capacity for 11 years. I have many types of ways of teaching since learning is a conversation between teacher and student there are always adjustments until you find the right way for the learner. I will do whatever I can to help as long as there is effort put forth on the student's part as well. I took a break from everything for the last two years due to my son being born with Down Syndrome which has been a challenge. I will need to tutor from my home for the time being as my son has some challenges still and our schedules are important to keep the same. Again, If this does not work for you then I am sorry but please seek another tutor. If it does I am really excited to help! Thank you.

We love Melissa! She is caring, patient and always willing to make sure that my daughter is gaining confidence and strength in what they are working on! We are blessed to have Melissa tutor our daughter!
Melissa did a great job in helping my daughter to prepare for her honors geometry final. We appreciate her helping out on such short notice! My daughter thinks she did well on her test.
Melissa is amazing. In just a few short months of working with her, my daughter is really starting to grasp the concepts of algebra. I can see a growing confidence in her math abilities after every session. Thank you so much, Melissa for your help. My daughter is looking forward to a great year in Algebra and it's all because of you. :)
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
