I have always loved learning since I was a young child, especially in the realms of math and science. I was the kid who would prefer to be outside in the woods than in the house. I loved to explore things under rocks and figure out how everything interacted. That passion, curiosity, and hands on learning style continues to this very day. I have always loved learning since I was a young child, especially in the realms of math and science. I was the kid who would prefer to be outside in the woods than in the house. I loved to explore things under rocks and figure out how everything interacted. That passion, curiosity, and hands on learning style continues to this very day. Learning through exploration and doing continued as I received my degree in Biology from Reed College. There, I experienced high quality lab science, culminating in a year long thesis on spider development.

Since college, I have continued to teach hands on through after school science programs and being the lead tutor at an after school tutoring program in Portland, OR. For the last 6 years I have been teaching middle school science and math at a private middle school in Albuquerque that focuses on math and science. Here, I have learned to work with ELL students and have continued to develop my skills in teaching with an inquiry based philosophy that allows students to retain knowledge and requires them to think critically.

Every lesson I teach I hope to challenge the student and help them see that they are learning and help them build confidence in what they are learning. I also try to make it interesting. This could mean playing a game, doing an exploration, acting out a play, or many other modes of learning. I try to adapt my teaching style to the style of the student I am working with.

I do request that I am given at least 3 hours notice of any cancellations and am willing to work with you to reschedule any cancelled sessions. As I am still a full time teacher, my availability is mainly in the evenings and on the weekends.

I look forward to hearing from you and getting the opportunity to work with you and/or your student!
