About Ann

As a visual homemaker-type of person, I find that problem-solving is fun and exciting when the knowledge I'm gaining can be applied to my favorite hobbies and projects. My interests include cooking, gardening, sewing, and design of all types, and I constantly use math, English, and computers as tools to make my projects easier, more beautiful, and more cost-efficient. I love to teach in a way that helps students incorporate learning into their personal interests. Life should be a growth experience and education should be useful.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from The University of Arizona, and specialize in tutoring math, English, and most creative software. You'll find that my teaching method incorporates your comfort level and previous knowledge into a casual setting. I will help you achieve your goals at a pace that works for you, while making your sessions as customized as possible. We can discuss and review your progress at various stages and finesse the lessons as we go.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have over 20 years experience in vector-based illustration software, and have redrawn many logos that were not originally designed correctly. Adobe Illustrator, when used correctly, will allow your image to be infinitely scalable without any loss of quality

Adobe InDesign

With many years of magazine design under my belt, I consider myself an InDesign expert. Learn how to create templates, use layers, align to the grid, and build character and paragraph styles. This will make your multi-page document look professional and consistent from page to page.

Desktop Publishing

I have over 20 years professional experience designing magazines, catalogs, and books for large publishing companies. I have taught many interns, entry-level designers, and other office staff how to print, collate, bind, and trim using various office equipment. During tutoring sessions, layout and typography theories will be considered and files will be prepared for the option of professional printing.

Dreamweaver

I can teach the basics of setting up pages, templates, and style sheets, plus file structure and how to upload and download your site. The student will learn how to design a small website by adding content, images, menus, and rollovers, and teach how Cascading Style Sheets work. We will also review web trends and how to backup and revise the site in the future.

Graphic Design

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from The University of Arizona. Since graduating, I have worked with agencies and large publishing companies, and have an award-winning portfolio. I enjoy making the world a more colorful and beautiful place and want to help others reach their creative potential by sharing my knowledge of color, typography and theory.
