Hello! I am Danielle -- I have an M.A. in Comparative Literature. I love working with others, especially when it comes to language and literacy.
As a Latin tutor, I can help you through any difficulties and allow the language to come alive. I have had eight years of college level Latin -- four years during my undergraduate degree, and four years at the graduate level. Grammar, syntax, and translation pedagogy is my primary interest. In addition, I have extensive experience reading, translating, and preparing research on many Roman authors -- Tacitus, Cicero, Virgil, Ovid, Seneca, Horace, Propertius, Sallust, Caesar, and Catullus -- to name a few!
As an English Composition tutor, I have had extensive experience working with undergraduate students -- both native and non-native speakers. I can help with grammar, thesis building, reading strategies, research methods, and revising academic work across the disciplines.
I believe that education, as well as tutoring, should be affordable for everyone. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you think we might be a good fit! Hello! As a Latin
I am willing to negotiate for package deals or groups of students.
Danielle was exactly what I needed. She was and is able to let me set the pace of what and when I want to learn. She's very knowledgeable in the subject and has already been a great help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an undergraduate degree in Classics, wherein I studied ancient Greek and Roman culture, language, archaeology, history, and literature. I still study and tutor other in Latin (please refer to my Latin qualifications).
I have worked with many non-native English students, who range from undergraduates to graduate students. Much of my experience, however, comes in the form of tutoring those who intend to take the TOEFL. I have helped many students attain a high score in order that graduate admissions committees see them as viable candidates.
I have been studying Latin since 2001, when I began my undergraduate degree in Classics. In 2005 I began tutoring undergraduates in beginning college level Latin. Currently I tutor both undergraduates and high school students in Latin.
I have both a BA and an MA in Comparative Literature, thus I have been trained to read a variety of literary texts, both in the original language, and in translation, from a comparative perspective. My primary interest is in Classics, specifically ancient texts, but I am well versed in most Western literary texts. From Dante to Borges, I can help you read critically, comprehensively, as well as write analytical, expository essays or research papers. Even if literature (and not just English!) isn't your prime interest, the act of reading, writing, and reflecting is invaluable for standardized exams and for the college admissions process.
