Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I am a 25-year member of the Institute of Management Accounting (CMA), MBA in Finance, BS in Accounting, AS in Business management. I have spent my entire career in business as supervisor, manager, trainer, and finally entrepreneur (1988). I have experience in small business, corporate, sole proprietor, and partnerships. I have technical and practical business experience. As a consultant, research and user problem-solving are my primary activities. In today's environment this includes digital, and manual solutions. I am certified Quickbooks Pro-advisor supporting desktop, and online software.

Computer Programming

My MBA curriculum included courses in Fortran, and Basic. I have taken self-development courses in Dbase, Foxpro, Visual Basic, and Object-Oriented Programming. I have been developer in MSAccess via Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). I have also developed applications in Magic PC (Aker Corp). I have created Access/VBA multi-user front-end applications integrated sharing/retrieving data with Word, Excel, and MsAccess.

Financial Accounting

My entire career has been focused on Accounting in corporate, manufacturing, non-profits and small business as a consultant. I have learned, used and trained accounting software from the major developers such as Microsoft, Intuit Quickbooks, Sage Accounting, and developer custom products. Accounting 101 focuses on principles which are applicable in every scenario. As things become more complex, other rules come into play. An example, sole proprietor, partnership, and corporations follow double entry accounting basic principle, but are maintained differently. Terminology becomes very important.

General Computer

General computer refers to desktop computer applications software running on personal computer hardware. "Windows" is the primary software that allows the user to perform data manipulation (e.g., Create a letter, create contacts, draw an object, search for a file). The internet now is the dominant user interface as "The Cloud" software applications have made the desktop less important in favor of mobile computing: smartphones, tablets, and laptop computers. Understanding the relationship and role of hardware, software and the user interface will lead to confidence and independence in general computing.

Hard Of Hearing

I am hearing impaired for the last 50 years. I incurred hearing nerve loss in Air Force. I was given hearing aids, taught lip reading, and discharged after 8 years of service. I attended college and gained employment. Hearing aids have improved since then - digital vs Analog. I have learned techniques for improved aids (phone amplifications, text captioning, blue tooth aids, visual lip reading, and mostly when to ask for help when all else fails. I gained this knowledge through trial and error and research. Interviews, resumes, employment - all are daily challenges for the hearing impaired.

Managerial Accounting

I have 20+ experience in corporate, manufacturing, non-profits and small business accounting software as consultant. I trained major accounting software such as Microsoft, Intuit Quickbooks, Sage Accounting, and customized products. Accounting 101 focuses on the principles which are applicable in every scenario. As lessons become more complex, other rules come into play. An example, sole proprietor, partnership, and corporations follow double entry accounting basic principle, but are maintained differently. Terminology becomes very important in Managerial Accounting.

Martial Arts

I am certified 4th Degree Taekwondo Black Belt Master, currently teaching classes at Queen Creek Recreation Center for all ages, and adjunct employee with Maricopa Community College as Taekwondo Instructor. I am also senior instructor at NBT Taekwondo, Chandler, AZ. I have over 30 years experience in Taekwondo, and training in Karate and Tai Chi.

Microsoft Access

I began using Access version 2.0, and developed applications in Access 97 - using VBA code, and Access objects - Forms, Queries, Macros, Tables, Sql code, and VBA modules. Access 2007 changed the user interface to the ribbon - but the underlying objects still remain. I have used Access for business solutions, user data entry, report writing, and data conversion. The key element is that Access offers more than one way to solve a problem. I prefer to teach Access by example. Define the problem, and alternative solutions. Then identify the work required, and knowledge needed.

Microsoft Excel

I learned Lotus 123 spreadsheet, the dominant spreadsheet prior to Excel. Today Excel is the dominant spreadsheet in Accounting. I have used and trained in Excel development, use and functions as they pertain to general, business, and accounting use. The real power of spreadsheet lays in knowing how to organize the data, how to save and name files for future retrieval, and macros - the beginning of programming a spreadsheet. In my experience, practice will quickly lead to proficiency.

Microsoft Word

I began with Wordstar, and Wordperfect back in the day prior to Windows. Microsoft on Windows replaced and obsoleted the leading DOS products. Word on Windows automated simple notes, formatting fonts, creating labels, merging documents and text files. Word has many powerful functions. Macros are the start of programming Word. For advanced users, there is Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). All MS Office products use the "Ribbon". General knowledge of the Ribbon and environment will lead to immediate use of Word as a tool for productivity.

QuickBooks

I am Certified Intuit Quickbooks Proadvisor Desktop version since 2008, and Quickbooks Online version 2013. I have installed and support Quickbooks customers on Enterprise, Premier, Quickbooks for Non-Profits. Currently studying Quickbooks 2015 new features via Intuit Virtual Conference.

Tax Preparation

I am IRS approved E-File provider, and IRS Registered Tax Preparer. I have prepared Income Taxes for 20 years via Lacerte Software (an Intuit company). My clients have included individuals, corporations, partnership, Non-Profit, Fidcuiary, and Gift tax returns. I have maintained a California Tax Preparer Credential for the last 20 years (20 hours of CEU's - 16 Federal tax law, 4 State.

Great and Thoughful Tutor

Henry was a god send for me - I had been pulling my hair out trying to learn QuickBooks for my Non-Profit and was just about to hire an accountant to take it all over when I found WyzAnt and thought of tutoring. I didn't want an accountant since it would remove me from the financial process and I would lose a lot of hands on control and knowledge about my business - Henry was a prefect solution.
