Japanese: I first gained interest in Japanese through anime, and am encouraged that many young learners are the same. I lived in Japan for 4 years, including studying at a Japanese language school for 2 years (while tutoring part-time). Japanese: I first gained interest in Japanese through anime, and am encouraged that many young learners are the same. I lived in Japan for 4 years, including studying at a Japanese language school for 2 years (while tutoring part-time). I passed the N2 test, but more importantly to me, have communicated with friends and Japanese teachers primarily or exclusively in Japanese. Compared to the average native Japanese speaker, I am more conscious of the differences between English and Japanese, and thus better understand common difficulties and can explain them.

ESL: I taught English for 1 year in Beijing, China and 4 years in Tokyo, Japan. While in China I did teacher training to help native Chinese use English in their classrooms, as well as teach Elementary students. In Japan I taught at a conversation school for 3 years, mostly helping adults with business or travel English. I also did TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS teaching as part of that. For my last year, I worked as an ALT at an Elementary school. I have a TEFL certificate.

AP English: In High School, I excelled in my AP English classes, consistently received a score of 7 or above on my practice essays, got 5s on both the AP Lang and AP Lit tests, and got above 700 on each test section in the SAT. I noticed common patterns for questions and helped my friends with tips.

Overall, as a language teacher I find it satisfying to witness my students' growth, and I think many appreciate that I can relate to them more culturally and understand the reasons for their common grammatical mistakes, while correcting them gently. I tailor lessons to individuals and am flexible in my approach. Through my varied language experience, I better understand how to clearly communicate, and how to help others do the same.

Please feel free to ask me questions!

Great Tutuor and very knowledgeable.

Lydia, has been teaching my son for approximately 2 years. Alex went to Japan this past Thursday. When he and some students missed their connecting flight from Tokyo to Osaka, Japan, it was Alex who was able to translate and step up as leader. Lydia's tutoring helped him with his confidence and gave him the tools he needed to sound like a native Japanese speaker. Thank You Lydia. I really appreciate your help. God Bless you.

Patient Tutor

Lydia did a great job by helping me explain the words that I don't understand and I'm getting better at communicating and having perfect grammar. I recommend everyone to have her for English, please!

Great Japanese Tutor!

Lydia’s lessons are always really structured and informative. I love how she asks me if I have any questions after each new topic and asks what my goals are so the lessons can be tailored to my abilities and aims. She is really knowledgeable in the Japanese language and in what kinds of resources are available and very kind and patient too!

An amazing lesson

An amazing lesson. For someone who has taught for two major universities such as myself I will go out on a limb and say Lydia is an amazing instructor. She is structured. She is kind. She is encouraging, and interactive. She really brings her “A” game. She definitely challenges her students in a polite and gentle way, and encourages participation. She is overall awesome sauce. Anyone who is learning Japanese for business could benefit from this woman. I highly recommend. A+

First Japanese Lesson for 6 Year old

Lydia was very easy to work with and I appreciate her recommendation to have 30 minute lessons rather than 1 hour. She personalized a lesson plan incorporating words of interest to my son and kept him engaged during the lesson. My son is excited to continue learning Japanese.

Engaging Tutor

My teenage son was interested in learning Japanese but struggles with online learning. Lydia engaged him from the moment the lesson started and taught him usable words and phrases in the very first lesson. He was so excited to tell family and friends what he had learned and asked to book a recurring lesson!

Lydia is a very skillful artist and patient teacher. Lydia paces her lessons perfectly for my daughter to follow. My child looks forward to her drawing lessons.
