Hello, I'm Amber! I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and a minor in Early Childhood. I have 10 years experience teaching kindergarten and pre-kindergarten in a classroom setting, as well as 6 years of tutoring experience in pre-kindergarten to third grade.

I believe that young children and elementary aged children should be taught in a way that is engaging and fun. As a teacher and tutor I have developed literacy activities and games that use a variety of materials and manipulatives. While I work with students I often add humor to the lessons to help with any frustrations the student may with of the subject or learning in general. It is not unusual for my lessons to involve movement, such as jumping, throwing a bean bag, etc. I believe that the more engaged the student is, the more they will learn and remember.

I have experience teaching 4 to 6 year olds emergent reading and writing skills, and experience teaching elementary students how to read fluently and comprehend what they read. I believe that reading and writing skills should be practiced daily. In addition to tutoring, I would love to give you and your child ideas of activities that can be worked on at home.

In kindergarten through third grade children are taught how to read, but after that, the focus is on reading about a subject and learning from it. I have a passion for helping children become confident, successful readers by forth grade so that they can be successful in all subjects throughout their school career. I look forward to working with you and your child to help him/her gain the confidence and skills to become a successful reader.
