Bio

I have always excelled in mathematics. I had good teachers in middle school and high school, and they laid a mathematics foundation that allowed me to score 780 on SAT Math and 790 on GRE Quantitative (maximum score was 800 when I took each test). I never lost points on geometry questions on either of those tests. Today I teach high school mathematics full-time in Phoenix. I love helping students during and outside of my full-time job.

On Saturday mornings during ACT and SAT season, I present seminars at Phoenix-area high schools to help prepare students for these tests. I have insight into the kinds of questions these tests frequently ask, the most-tested content, and time management strategies.

I have two graduate degrees in education. At Northwestern University, I minored in English, and then I completed a graduate degree in English education. I love to write, spending daily time writing for personal and professional purposes. I also enjoy reading for pleasure in my spare time. At Wright State University, I completed a graduate degree in special education and have helped students full-time, K-12, at every grade level. I work with students who have special needs, as well as students who just need a little extra help. I thrive in small group and one-on-one settings and love to provide individualized instruction.

I get excited about developing students into future leaders of our nation and the world. Earlier in my career, I spent five years teaching, coaching, and leading school improvement efforts at a multinational American school in northern Africa. I have spent time in over 40 countries and enjoy working with students from many cultural backgrounds.

I love helping my students and look forward to building and strengthening their abilities to succeed! Part of my hourly rate includes preparation time, as I review students' assignments, goals, or other materials, prior to meeting, so that I can maximize instructional time and money.

I also have a passion for helping students who may have difficulty affording a private tutor. It's worth sending me a message, letting me know your budget, even if it's below my posted rate. If I have availability, I will do my best to provide you with quality help.

I have taught students at all ability levels, preschool through high school, in mathematics. I have mostly worked with elementary students in basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and word problems, although I have helped students with basic number sense (one-to-one correspondence, counting), as well. I have special education experience, which helps me to serve students at a wide range of ability levels in mathematics. I help a lot of students who need remedial help, or who have IEPs. When I work one-on-one with students, I try to find teaching styles that work well with what helps them learn material.

I have a graduate degree in special education. I spent a year working at a secondary school (7-12) that specialized in teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. While at that school, I spent several months providing home instruction to a high school student with Autism Spectrum Disorder, helping him in all core subject areas. I have worked with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder from Kindergarten through high school. Note: I have worked with many students who have described themselves as having “Asperger’s.” Around 2013, the American Psychiatric Association, in the DSM-5, discontinued using the term “Asperger’s,” a term that tended to describe high-functioning persons who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Labels and terminology aside, I regularly teach, learn from, and enjoy spending time with several high-functioning students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

First session

David definitely made my son more confident on the english portion of the ACT test. David also helped with test time management and the science portion of the test.

Great lesson!

We've done one lesson with David. My son had a lot of questions covering a few different Algebra sections and a Geometry lesson. Lots of bouncing around. David handled it well. My son's grades this week were in the 92-plus percent range after bombing a couple assignments the week before because he was lost in the class. We welcome the progress. We plan to do a weekly session to keep my son on his game. So far, so great!

Brian, 7 lessons with David

geometry proofs

My son was a little hesitant to go to tutoring. After the lesson, he said it helped him understand the process better and it raised his confidence.

Jennifer, 2 lessons with David

David has been working with our son on English and Algebra 2.

We are pleased and will continue with David throughout the school year. We meet at a local library branch and are able to use a room that has been reserved so that there are no distractions.

Knowledge and Tutoring

David worked with my daughter to ready her for the PSAT and she was very pleased with his tutoring services. She has not taken the PSAT test yet, but she is confident that it will go well.

Kristie, 4 lessons with David

Excellent Tutor

Unfortunately, I found David too late for my son's Summer class but I intend on continuing with him during the coming school year. My son is 15 and really enjoys David's tutoring style. David is able to explain the materials clearly and break everything down so that it is understandable.

Very accommodating and professional

David was so great, especially coming to my house on such short notice. He truly helped my son. I highly recommend him as a tutor for everyone. My son thought very highly of David, which is rare since he is a teenager going through all the changes of a 15 year old.

Kelly, 8 lessons with David

Great insight and tools

David had great insight on where our students weaknesses were and how to improve them with specific strategies to apply in class and on tests. He was very knowledgeable and had a great working environment.

Stacey, 45 lessons with David

Patient and experienced tutor

David is helping our teenage son with review for high school finals. We have only had one session but David seems knowledgeable and supportive for test prep. Meeting at the library is easy and David came prepared with some test prep ideas.
