Hi! I am a past high school basketball coach and love to teach the game. I enjoy watching young kids grow in their skill sets and improve with each practice. As a ball player, I played 8 years of AAU basketball, I was a two year varsity starter at point guard, I lead Mecklenburg County (Charlotte,NC) in assists per game my senior year. I was recruited to play small D2 and D3 basketball in college, however a late knee injury derailed those offers. I've played with and and against current and past NBA players and even a couple NFL players (I played with Antawn Jamison in high school, I played against Shane Battier, Julius Peppers, and Brendan Haywood, just to name a few). Although my "competitive" basketball years a far behind, I do still play in men's leagues in the valley and occasional pick up games at the park.
I am still a student of the game and I enjoy watching how coaches play their chess matches against each other. I believe the fundamentals of the game are very important, and once you have those perfected everything else will come naturally. Today, I'm amazed how many kids are not well enough schooled on the basics.
I enjoy teaching and always welcome a challenge. Hi! I am a past high school basketball coach and love to teach the game. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I coached High School basketball in NC. I played three years varsity basketball in Charlotte public school system. I was a two year starter at point guard. I led Mecklenburg County in assists my senior year. I played eight years of AAU basketball in FL and NC. I was recruited to play small D2 and D3 college basketball. I was teammates with several guys who went on to play D1 basketball (two played at my alma mater, Appalachian State, one of which was named SoCon POY). I say this because I was a part of some very talented AAU teams.
I have also played with and against several professional athletes. For example, I played high school basketball with Antawn Jamison (UNC and NBA), I played against Shane Battier (Duke and NBA), Julius Peppers (UNC and NFL), and Brendan Haywood (UNC and NBA). The only reason I give examples of this is to highlight that I grew up playing very high level basketball. I understand the game, I understand the fundamentals, and what it takes to succeed. I am still player, as I compete in men's leagues in the valley.
I believe players with a strong grasp of the fundamentals have a higher basketball I.Q., and they can develop the advanced skills needed to excel easier. I enjoy teaching youth basketball. It's a game I love. And, I enjoy seeing kids grow in their own game and talents.
I hope to work with you in the future.
