I am very child centered and feel the student and I work as a team to further his or her education. I love integrating my subjects in order to have an effective lessons. I believe in following the standards in the classroom as well as tutoring. It is imperative that children know what they are going to be assessed on. I also believe it is my responsibility to let parents know what and why and how I am teaching their child. I try to make any teaching experience for my students fun, yet productive. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a retired K-12 special needs teacher/general education action teacher. I have been trained in the Sonday Reading Spelling program and also have worked with various levels of ability and age groups. I was trained in Gilbert School District the Sonday program which was very effective on children of different learning needs. I had children that had dyslexia and it was highly effective with them. One of the daily subjects I taught as a classroom teacher was study and organization skills. I taught students different strategies that would help them become better at different types of note taking skills, the use of charts, graphs an other diagrams, daily agendas, the use of physical materials, ie. highlighters, post-it notes.
