I am a professional aerospace engineer and community college adjunct faculty at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and have been tutoring mathematics and science for 12 years. I have been both an independent tutor and a university instructional assistant. The main focus of my tutoring method is to give the student a functional knowledge of the material coupled with a 'big picture' understanding. The functional knowledge will prepare students for quizzes, tests, homework, and other graded material, while the understanding gives students a sense of accomplishment and the 'ah ha' moments that make learning fun. Also, This allows students to be successful in a current class they are taking as well as future classes or activities that require this as a prerequisite.
I have a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering and a master's degree in systems engineering. I have worked in the space and defense industry for 9 years. I'm currently enrolled in a graduate program in system dynamics, a social science and policy studies field, from Worcester Polytechnical Institute.
Although my industry and career are focused on technical problem solving, I am also deeply committed to understanding the broader scope of problems including literature, philosophy, business and management, and social change. I am a professional aerospace engineer and community college adjunct faculty at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and have been tutoring mathematics and science for 12 years. I have been both an independent tutor and a
Group rate for 2-5 students is $40/student. For sessions 2-4 hours my rate is $45/hour. For Calc. 2&3, Diff. Eq., Lin. Algebra, & Engineering classes above Univ. Physics I & II my rate is $65.
My daughter inadvertently ended up in Honors Physics this past semester. About half way through she knew she was going to struggle. Josh came along at the perfect time and was very flexible with her needs. He came extra on the important test weeks and helped her finish the semester with a B+. Thanks Josh for all you did... owe you big time!
Joshua is an outstanding tutor! I need help with my accelerated physics 2 course and he was able to clearly explain every concept! I definitely felt a lot better about the material after each session. He took his time to make sure things made sense to me and even took the time to review the material ahead of time and create extra practice problems. He is the ideal tutor for anyone needing help with their tough courses! I highly recommend him!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have covered algebra for many years. Also, the application of algebra to higher mathematics is a really important skill to have. Advanced algebra has applications in business, engineering, medicine, and many other professions.
Calculus is critical tool in the development of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers. It has very important applications to business, medicine, economics, science, and other disciplines.
More than this though, calculus is transformational. It can radically change the way you think about mathematics and can greatly enhance your problem-solving capabilities.
I have been coaching early-career professionals in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers for 5 years. I've been heavily involved in career and professional development, resume writing, networking, training and certification for engineering disciplines and careers in the aerospace and defense industry.
Computer literacy is quickly becoming as important as language or analytical literacy. I have taken several courses in computer programming and have used many in my professional work.
I can tutor basic computer programming, Matlab/Simulink, LabVIEW, Python, Lisp/Scheme, Perl, Java, and C.
Differential equations is the extension of calculus and is an important foundation to understanding physical sciences, economics, biology, and many other disciplines. I have extensive experience with calculus and differential equations as well as with the applications to science, engineering, and economics.
I have taken undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering. Topics include: electrical circuits, electrical power, control systems, signals and systems, and electromagentism.
I have worked for several years in the satellite business and been involved in electrical power subsystems, solid-state devices, electrical ground support equipment, and other related disciplines.
Linear algebra is quickly replacing differential equations as being the most important mathematical skill to have in the engineering disciplines. This is a skill set that I use on a weekly basis in my work and feel has very important and wide ranging application.
My background in logic extends from both mathematical logical and philosophical logic. I have training with logic diagrams, solving sentential and modal logic problems and completing logic tables. I have been an instructor for courses on mathematical logic.
I have used MATLAB and Simulink for the last 7 years to model and test control system design. My MATLAB experience draws on my experience with numerical methods and applied mathematics experience (linear algebra, computational complexity, and discrete mathematics).
My undergraduate degree is in aerospace engineering and my masters degree is in systems engineering and I have been a practicing engineer for 7 years. Areas of expertise include: dynamics and control systems, mechanical design, numerical methods, modeling and simulation, space vehicle dynamics, rocket propulsion, and technical writing.
Philosophy has been a passion of mine for a long time. I have read extensively on metaphysics, symbolic logic, epistemology, ethics, philosophy of science, mathematics, language, and several other subjects within philosophy.
I have tutored physics since 2002. My formal training is in engineering and systems studies which has given great insight into physical systems and scientific inquiry.
Precalculus, in my opinion, is one of the most important mathematics courses out there. This material usually is the real difference between more computational/numerical problems to a more sophisticated understanding of mathematics.
Joshua L. passed a background check on 5/29/14. The check was ordered by another user through First Advantage. For more information, please review the background check information page.
After sending a message to Joshua, you will be able to order a new background check for $7.99. As part of your tutor selection process, we encourage you to run updated background checks. Please also review the safety tips for hiring tutors.
