Bachelor in elementary education (School Counseling)
Chapman University, Orange, California (Master's)
I am a retired educator of thirty years. I began my career in elementary education teaching second grade, fifth grade, and sixth grade. I enjoyed teaching all subject areas. My next years were in middle school. There I taught eighth grade science and history. I spent 8 years in middle school which I truly enjoyed. My next assignment was in high school. I was hired as a ninth grade counselor. I actually went into classrooms and taught study skills and organizational skills to my ninth graders. Those skills are critical in ensuring academic success. Regardless of what grade I was teaching or where, I have always had a passion for teaching. I love watching those moments when a student grasps a concept or feels proud of an academic accomplishment. There is nothing more rewarding to an educator. I still want to see those moments, and as a tutor I can have that opportunity again.
For fun I like to ride my horse, go to the gym, and hang out with my husband. I also enjoy music and dancing.
Since I taught elementary school and middle school all of the subjects that I taught had to do with reading, writing, and grammar. So I am very qualified to tutor in those subjects. I also taught study skills and organizational skills to ensure academic success in all subject areas.
I look forward to hearing from those students who wish to be successful in their current learning environment. Please contact me so that we may begin your road to educational success. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach study skills because my students were successful in turning in assignments on time, keeping notebooks organized, and keeping up with their daily assignment planner. I was able to teach study skills to elementary students, middle school students, and high school students. At the high school level, I went into classrooms on a regular basis to teach study skills and was very successful.
