University of Alaska Southeast (Marine Biology)
I am a 23-year-old recent college graduate with experience tutoring children between the grades of 5-8. I have also helped tutor some of my peers in college. I was an Honors student and I still enjoy school and learning new subjects. I have a passion for science and it is my favorite subject to tutor. I am also very good at math and have taken up to Calculus 1, which I received a grade of 4.0 in. Although I'd like to tutor mainly science, math, or English, I will tutor most other subjects as well. I have both an Associate of Science degree and a Bachelor's of Science degree in marine biology.
My tutoring style is to find out how best the student learns and cater my tutoring style to the way that individual learns best. I am patient with people as they learn, especially children. I try to find ways to make the subject one is studying fun and applicable to their lives. I tend to be creative in finding ways for students to process the information they are learning in a way that they can remember for a long time. I am dedicated to helping others and will work with parents and children to ensure that the student will be able to do their best in the subject they are having trouble mastering. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
