Registered Professional Reporter with the National Court Reporters and Captioners Association. I have a Bachelor's in Business from California Southern University (distance learning). I also possess medical writing and legal assistant vocational certificates. I can produce computer translations for the deaf. My last position was as a reporter in the Arizona court system.
My teaching experience includes: Creating continuing educational modules for the National Court Reporters and Captioners Association. I have mentored and tutored at Luz Academy in Tucson. I was a state-certified instructor many years ago in Texas, and substituted at Texas School of Business and Houston Community College many years ago. The ages taught range from middle school to adult, mainly young adult, but I am open to all ages.
My first encounter with the student would be an information gathering session, e.g., the reason a tutor is needed, what assessments have already been administered, and what concepts have already been tried, etc. If there is any unnecessary tension for the student, I will offer less stressful exercises during the first phase. I will try more visual, pictorial, computerized approaches to probe and determine if they are more effective approaches. I would confirm comprehension through summary, verbal, written or pictorial outlines, and asking questions. The best advice I received from a teacher was to always look up a word in the dictionary if you don't completely understand; don't assume it from the context. I still look up every word I have a question about.
I will try some alternative approaches to reading and writing that will make it more interesting. There are many ways to learn, and many fun ways to learn. You ARE capable.
I am presently enrolled and near completion in the graduate program at Louisiana Baptist University and am being accelerated in the category as someone who is already a professional.
I hope you will trust me with conveying the exciting world of English and/or Reading. Registered Professional Reporter with the National Court Reporters and Captioners Association. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
