I have been teaching math in public schools for over 34 years. Classes I have taught are Prealgebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus and my favorite subject Trigonometry. I teach all levels of Algebra at the community college. I started as a Home Economics teacher. I was a natural seamstress and baker. Trying to teach people who couldn't cook or sew was frustrating. As this subject was phasing out in America, I started looking for another subject to teach. I went back to school to get a Math degree and gave teaching Math a try. I would explain a concept and students would say they didn't get it. I was so patient and understanding because I wasn't a natural math student. My life's work has been to find many way to explain math. I patiently break down the parts until my students get it. If your goal is to just survive a math class or to master it, I can help you. The most rewarding part of my life has been helping people reach their educational goals.
As a high school teacher, I stay after school to tutor my students. Working with my students individually, I am able to zone in on areas that need more attention. I am an enthusiastic and exciting classroom teacher. I have many ways to explain a problem. Some of my students benefit from more personal attention. For this reason I volunteer on Saturdays and after school to help students succeed in their math classes.
I believe with all my heart and soul if you are supposed to be a teacher you will never be happy doing anything else. I have enjoyed helping more then 10,000 people learn Algebra. I will tutor in your home, library or coffee shop. If you want that math grade to go up, give me call. I have been teaching math in public schools for over 34 years. Karen really knows math! She was fun to work with and really helped instill confidence to my son, who is very discouraged about Algebra 1 right now. Math doesn't come easily for him, and yet her explanations even in one lesson so far helped him reframe his perspective of his assignments. She is very responsive and has great availability for tutoring sessions.
She is very experienced and helpful. She was able to help understand things and freshen up on somethings I had forgotten!
Karen is an amazing tutor! She is patient and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone who will help your child succeed in math.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
