While teaching online classes through Central AZ College, I discovered a love of teaching. I love tutoring because it gives me a chance to work with students on a one to one basis and focus on "issues" they may have. I have an understanding of the many students today who face the special challenges of being "visual" and "hands on" learners. Things must move so fast in the general education environment that it is easy to get behind or confused. I think one of the most important things learned by students with tutoring is focus and developing an organized approach to learning.
In my 40+ years of working in various administrative support positions in health care, I have often been involved in the training of staff and the writing of policies and procedures. Both helped me develop my skills in teaching topics quickly and clearly. I have an Associates of Science degree and many years of attendance at a large variety of "train the trainer" programs, workshops, and topic focused (i.e. IT in Health Care Information, Communication skills, etc.). I've also learned from the many teachers and trainers I've worked with over the years what works, and, also important, what doesn't work. I think the most important lesson I've learned is that each person has their own individual needs, and it is the first job a tutor to find that need.
I have always had a love of English, was one of the only subjects I excelled in in school. I also found that a command of English grammar, reading skills, etc. was a great help in my other school courses. Even math problems seemed clearer because I understood the instructions and problem statements. A firm background in grammar and literature, built on an obsession with reading, made me a confident and popular public speaker. My reading also fed my desire to share the information I had on many topics with others. Thus, my love of teaching.
I will bring a fresh approach to your English skills and show you how improvements in this area will reach beyond the regular "readin' & writin' " you have been exposed to so far. Most importantly, I will work with you, focusing on your needs and your interests. While teaching online classes through Central AZ College, I discovered a love of teaching. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
