I have tutored kids in math, science, English, and Spelling. In addition, I have raised two children, helping them with their homework all the way through school. Both kids graduated with straight "A's", each with GPAs of 4.5 or better. One graduated number 2 in school and the other graduated number 3. My son was already doing math at the age of 3, when his older sister started math in school. He didn't want her to know more than he did. Both kids were reading and writing at the age of 4. We would work every night on math problems, spelling words, and of course I was reading books from the day they could ask for a book before bed. One child has a Masters in Occupational Therapy and is now an Occupational Therapist, and the other graduated with honors from college with a degree in Chemical Engineering and is now a Chemical Engineer. I believe this is due to the good start they had when they were young. My son still has a very large love of math and I'm sure it has to do with him learning it so early.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am Wyzant certified to teach reading as well as being a voracious reader. I raised two kids who were both reading by the age of 4. Both kids graduated high school and college with honors as did I. My son scored a 33 on his ACT on his first try and my daughter and I both got 29s. I typically read 3-4 books a week at the present time. I would love to show children the joys reading and getting lost in a good book can bring to you!
