Hendrix College (French)
I am a creative people-person with a passion for the French language and culture. Additionally, I've always been dedicated to education, and worked well with students of all ages. I began my working life as a private babysitter, followed shortly after by a camp counselor position at The Little Gym. I was President of French Club at both my high school and my college, and led a group of college students to volunteer as teachers at an after-school French Club at a local elementary school.
My teaching style includes aspects of the Communicative Approach, with a focus on the learner and his/her needs. My classroom is a lively one, getting the students to actively engage in the content in order to frame it in a way that is accessible for them. My hobbies include arts and crafts, music, the outdoors, story-telling, and conversation. I also love animals, fashion, and bright colors and patterns.
As a recent graduate from Hendrix College, I received distinction in French and the Inis Claude award for honors in the Foreign Language Department as a whole. I also have student teaching experience working with students at Little Rock Central High School, developing units and lesson plans to introduce, review, and assess important principles of the French language. I studied abroad with the Hendrix-in-Tours program in the summer of 2014 and was placed in one of the upper levels of the intensive international language courses in Tours, France.
I encourage students of all levels of French to contact me, as I am confident that I can effectively immerse anyone in the French culture and language who is willing to learn. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
