About Angela

My personal mission statement encompasses showing compassion and interest in all students. I received a B. S. degree in Business Management from Georgia Tech several years ago and currently received a Master of Science Mathematics Education degree from Walden University. I have a sincere love of math and problem solving. Working in several different venues throughout my adult life has enabled me to use mathematics in the real world. Relating math to the real world allows me to take abstract mathematical concepts and make them more concrete for students who struggle with math learning objectives.

I respect and appreciate cultural diversity and understand that all students come to the learning environment with their own "ways of knowing." Therefore, I embrace students' multiple intelligences for the purpose of gleaning his/her strengths in an academic environment. Students learn in different ways. Understanding that what works for one learner may not work for another is really an opportunity to allow the learner's own natural talents to shine through in the classroom and in tutoring sessions. All students are quite capable of learning. The teacher/tutor has the responsibility of figuring out what learning/teaching methods work best for the student.

Mathematics, quite often, is the subject that students love to hate. Learning math does not have to be initimidating or frustrating. Approaching math one skill set at a time with a positive attitude builds knowledge and confidence in the student. The outcome of a student who has increased confidence and knowledge is better understanding of math concepts, better math grades, happy students, and happy parents (if student is a minor)!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I substituted for two years in the Little Rock School District, grades K-6. I am quite familiar with the CCSS for the elementary grade levels, and was specifically requested by teachers to substitute in their classrooms amid their absences. I have 8th-grade twin sons whom I've helped every year with homework, science fair projects, reading/AR test preparation, and
book reports. Additionally, I am a current graduate from Walden University with an MSEd in Mathematics (5-8).

Prealgebra

I have an MSEd in Mathematics (5-8) and enjoy helping students reach their academic goals.

Spelling

Extensive vocabulary, spelling, and grammatical proficiencies.
