Hendrix College (Biology)
UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (PhD)
I have been a biology professor and personal tutor since 2011. During this time I have taught Biology I and II for both majors and non-majors and Microbiology. However my Ph.D. is in Genetics and Development so I am extremely knowledgeable in these subjects as well. I recently taught at various colleges in the DFW area, but have recently moved to Little Rock. My schedule is completely open for new students.
Although I started off tutoring mostly college students, over the past couple of years my focus has turned to high school students attending both public and private institutions including Highland Park HS, St. Marks, Plano East HS, Hockaday, Bishop Lynch and Ursulin which are all in Dallas. I have extensive experience (over 250 hours) mentoring students in both regular and AP biology. Additionally, I have helped several students prepare for the AP Biology exam.
Because I am a biology professor, my lecture notes (PowerPoints), quizzes, reviews and exams are all available to the students that I tutor/mentor. Additionally, I have access to certain online homework systems (Mastering Biology, Mastering Microbiology and Learn Smart) which also provide extra review materials for my students.
I have had great success tutoring high school students of all skills and backgrounds. So whether you are looking to maintain a high level of study throughout the semester, you need to improve your grades for college applications (I went to Hendrix!) or if you need help studying for an exam, I'm your tutor. For instance, last year I started tutoring someone who was failing AP Biology. By the end of the spring semester, she had earned an A in the class with my help. Not only that, but she was exempt from even taking her final exam in Biology!
Although I typically tutor in person, I also have experience with remote tutoring using applications such as Skype.
My hourly rate reflects upon my credentials, experience, provided materials and the demand for my services. I have been a biology professor and personal tutor since 2011. Because I will be traveling to you, there will be extra fees associated with distance. If you are more than 15 miles away, I will charge an extra $15/lesson.
I met with a couple tutors for help on biology before meeting with Jennifer, I must say that she is the best and gives your complete moneys worth. She comes prepared and doesn't waste any time covering everything I needed help with, which is what it should be like when paying for help. She helped me achieve an A in biology, and is now helping me master microbiology. Jennifer puts what I felt like was another language into terms that I can understand. She is worth every penny!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Ph.D. in Genetics and Development from UT Southwestern which I obtained in the fall of 2010. During the first two years of my graduate career I excelled in numerous classes specializing in genetics including Developmental Neurogenetics, Advanced Genetics I and II, Experimental Approaches to Complex Genetic Disease and Gene Transcription. Additionally, my dissertation research focused on using various genetic approaches to identify various regulators of neural stem cell proliferation during development and after injury. The title of my dissertation was "The role of glutamate transporters in early postnatal neurogenesis." Moreover I have given numerous presentations relating to my expertise and have several publications.
The study of microscopic organisms', which are defined as any living organism that is either a single cell (unicellular), a cell cluster, or has no cells at all (acellular). This includes eukaryotes, such as fungi and protists, and prokaryotes. Viruses and prions, though not strictly classed as living organisms, are also studied. Microbiology typically includes the study of the immune system, or Immunology. Generally, immune systems interact with pathogenic microbes; these two disciplines often intersect which is why many colleges offer a paired degree such as "Microbiology and Immunology".
Microbiology is a broad term which includes virology, mycology, parasitology, bacteriology, immunology and other branches. A microbiologist is a specialist in microbiology and these related topics.
I currently teach Microbiology at Richland College and have and have experience working in a Microbiology laboratory at UT Southwestern.
