University of Kansas (Microbiology)
I am the mother of a Penn State Architectural Engineering graduate who is now working in the DC area. I was born in the Midwest and received my Bachelors degree in Microbiology from the University of Kansas.
I have worked in medical research for over 30 years, and most of these thirty years were spent training students in the lab. I currently supervise two post-docs. I feel that I have good communication and teaching skills. I have published in science journals and can assist with your math, reading and writing skills.
I currently have experience tutoring with WyzAnt in the areas of geometry, algebra, SAT, and HSA, plus multiple examples of editing essays, short books, and dissertations.

I met with Patricia when I was struggling with my intro-level math class in college. She was helpful, patient and kept me feeling positive about my studies. After meeting with her, my grades went up and I would meet with her again if I ever needed more help.
Patricia's proof reading skills have been very helpful. She has been so patient with me and that means a great deal to me.
Patricia is very kind and patient. My grandson is kind of shy but he warmed up to her right away and she helped him very much. He was having a very hard time with geometry but after only a couple of sessions with Patricia he received a B on his last exam.
Patricia thank you for helping Andrew to succeed in his pre algebra class. He has become confident and has a better understanding of the subject in general. Thank you very much.
Patricia is one in a million. She made my life as a mother so much easier this year. My daughter truly looked forward to having Patricia over to study, laugh and learn. Patricia will be missed over the summer. Until next school year Patricia! Job superbly done!!
Patricia is a great tutor, she has been an excellent guide for my son, and she is very patient, flexible and helpful in meeting our goals even when sometimes that was not convenient to her, she always being well prepared before tutoring. She works through the problems with my son with patient and great at explaining things. My son had learned so much in the few weeks with Patricia, and his math has been improved greatly and jump to a higher level in such short time. I would highly recommend her to other students.
Wow sums it all up! Last year my daughter was sailing through her math class with little hiccups. This year learning from her teacher was a challenge. How your child is taught is critical to their ability to absorb the various math elements. After two and half quarters of seeing her struggle with something I knew she could grasp, I decided to find her a tutor. We are so lucky to have found Ms. Patricia. She is a very smart woman who has changed things around for my daughter. In one session she was able to identify the gaps in her learning. By doing so she was able to prepare my daughter for her quiz the very next day, which resulted in an “A”. Watching my daughter respond to Ms. Patricia has encouraged me to keep Ms. Patricia year round. She exudes all the qualities I wish my daughter’s current teacher possess. If you are looking for someone who is reliable, on time, personable, prepared and result driven, Ms. Patricia is the one for you.
Patricia has been a wonderful tutor. She is patient, knowledgeable, and able to reach my son in Math. She goes out of her way to help him understand homework and prepare him for quizzes, tests and even the SAT. Finding Patricia has been a true gift for our family. Thank you Patricia!
Patricia is a very skilled tutor. She has a professional approach to the student. She easily identifies weak spots in student's knowledge in a subject and very effectively works with the student through all materials to fix the problem. Since my daughter has been tutored by Patricia my daughter's grades raised significantly and she became much more confident and motivated in what she knows and what she can do.
Patricia was prompt and ready to get to work with my daughter. My daughter does not like to have to do tutoring but it only took her 15 minutes to warm up to Patricia. She was able to really see where my daughter struggles with Algebra in one session and start to break it down so she could understand. Now that my daughter has more of an understanding she does not have the same negative feeling that she is stupid in math.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
