#### ESL/ESOL

My mom started to take ESL classes when I was in middle school. I was able to see her transformation and gained confidence. During college, I wanted to help the surrounding community in some way. I decided to become a volunteer ESL teacher through a program that helped underserved adults, all of whom were immigrants. I taught a weekly ESL class every week for 8 semesters with a variety of other volunteer teachers that were retired professionals. I was able to learn greatly from them and become the best volunteer teacher that I could be. I related to them because of what I had seen my mom go through, I tailored to their needs and saw great improvement. Teaching ESL will always remain close to me.

From ages 6-16, I was enrolled in Kumon, a well-known math and tutoring company. I observed what methods were most effective for students of all ages. As I grew older, I began tutoring my younger cousins and then transitioned to elementary and middle school students. I work well with children and enjoy teaching them as I know the importance of having a good foundation. I am able to explain math concepts by using day-to-day examples so that they are able to make connections and eventually solve problems themselves by initially taking the correct approach.
