About Aaron

I am in my third year of undergraduate study in music education at the University of Arkansas. My emphasis is in choral conducting, but I also study voice and intermediate piano. I participated in high school choir and played French horn throughout most of my high school career. Since 2014, I have been a member of the University of Arkansas honor choir, Schola Cantorum. I can help students with any instrument, but the instruments that I have the most experience with are Voice, guitar (primarily accoustic), piano, drum set, and french horn. I will accept students with any level of experience in voice, but for other instruments, I primarily focus on beginner to intermediate levels of experience.

Education in my passion, and I'm eager to inspire students to follow their passions in music. It is my student's personal passions that I want to grow and develop. Many classically trained teachers focus on teaching their students the music that the teacher is passionate about. Often times, this leads young students to become frustrated with the instrument and give up altogether. I want to help my students to increase the skills relevant to the music that they are passionate about while fusing it with music theory, ear training, and history.

I have experience learning and performing with various vocal and instrumental ensembles. I have taken and am currently enrolled in classes ranging from music theory to music computer technology.

I provide a fun and friendly environment for all students from children to adults. I am free most week days after 2:00pm and weekends. Feel free to shoot me an email anytime and we can see if I would be a good fit for you or your child!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drums

I have played drum set since 2008. I took 2 years of drum lessons, and can teach beginners and intermediate students. I played drums in a band for 1 year.

Ear Training

I am in my third semester of ear training classes. I have consistently scored high grades. My skills include interval recognition, pitch matching, chord value recognition, etc. Ear training is crucial to my vocal studies as well as my participation in choir.

French Horn

French horn was the first instrument that I learned to play. I began playing french horn in the 6th grade. I played in the band for 5 years before moving my focus toward choir.

General Music

I have taken 3 years of music study at the University of Arkansas. I have received A's and B's in Classes such as Music Theory, Music History, Aural Perception (ear training), 5 semesters of private voice study. I have also studied diction in German, Italian, and French. I have consistently participated and excelled in various ensembles.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar since 2007. I taught myself guitar at first using chords and scales, but i have taken a couple of years of guitar lessons. I can read chord charts, tabs, and some classical guitar notation. I would be a good fit for beginner or intermediate acoustic guitar.

Music History

I have taken 2 semesters of music history. Outside of these classes, I have learned much about composers and styles through my other studies. I am adept at analyzing different styles of music from different eras.

Sight Singing

I have taken 3 semesters of sight singing class. I have also picked up sight singing skills through my participation in numerous ensembles throughout my music career. I teach sight singing primarily though solfege.

Voice (Music)

I am in my 6th semester of private vocal study. I have studied voice under Dr. Eddie W. Jones, Donna Rollene, and Dr. Chris MacRae at the University of Arkansas. I have performed in multiple vocal recitals at the UofA. This fall, I will be giving my own graduate recital.
