Hey my name is Barton T. and I have been working as a professional tutor for three years. I am currently heading into my senior year for my mathematics degree at the University of Arkansas. I graduated high-school from ASMSA, which is a two-year residential program run by the U of A administrative system that offers college level classes. My professors along with the unconventional courses offered from this school gave me the extra nudge into the field of mathematics that motivated me to become a tutor. I believed that since I was pursuing a higher education in mathematics that it was very important for me to go back to the fundamentals and solidify them. What better way to do this than through teaching it to others? I have come to enjoy tutoring because I love seeing that "aha!" moment on a student's face when they finally understand a troublesome concept. It is one of my top goals as a tutor to make my students look forward to the next session as they might not the class or especially the homework!
As I mentioned above, I am pursing a degree in pure mathematics. I enjoy this branch of mathematics because it involves modeling real world systems and problems. I have found that math is more appealing to me and the majority of my students when the numbers have an actual meaning attached to them. I have taken two years of architecture courses as well and learned a great deal about sketching and looking at problems in terms of the whole as well as its pieces. I have applied this to my teaching and rely heavily on sketches as well as models in some instances. One of my most useful tools for teaching is my white board and colored expo markers which I bring to every session. The use of several colors and a large surface make it easy for me to clearly portray the whole problem as well as each step involved within it. For long term students I encourage a folder specifically for our sessions that I help keep organized according to that student's specific learning style.
I do want to make it known that I take my job very seriously and hold myself to a high standard. Without working under a direct employer anymore I strongly welcome well-thought out feedback on anything my students or their parents think I did great or could improve on. Also, with tutoring being such versatile work I do have a cancellation policy that will result in a charged session for no–call-no-shows without a 24-hour notice. I realize this isn’t always possible so I am willing to drop that cancellation charge a certain amount if I have even a two or three hour notice. However I try to be as fair as possible and understand emergencies do happen. I have never had any problems with multiple no-call-no-shows or late arrivals so this is not something I put much time into worrying over. I do group rates which are negotiated on based on the subject matter, travel time, and amount of students. As I’m looking for long term students I also give lower hourly rates the more frequently a student receives tutoring from me. As a way to see if I make a good fit for the student I offer the first lesson completely free of charge if I don't meet my student's needs.
Feel free to contact me with any questions and I look forward to working with you!
Excellent geometry tutor
Excellent mastery of subject matter (10th grade geometry). Covers a lot of material during the lesson with an encouraging and constructive tone and enthusiasm. My daughter is looking forward to working with Barton.Peter, 9 lessons with BartonTutor responded:

So patient and clear! We are so grateful!
Mr. Barton has been amazing! He has been working with our VERY shy 11 year old daughter in math. She had an academically rough year last year and started this year seriously lacking confidence especially in math. She wanted to excel but felt like she was too far behind to catch up. Mr. Barton is so patient and encouraging with her. There is no pressure, he will go over the same thing as many times as is necessary and will explain it in different terms until she get it. He speaks her language! She has made all A's this year and is feeling very positive. I hear from her now that she "gets it" she "can do this"! She even asks him questions! THAT IS HUGE!! What an awesome change! I am so grateful!Christine, 10 lessons with BartonTutor responded:
That makes me very happy to hear! She's a wonderful student and a pleasure to work with.
Thorough and listened well
My daughter's first lesson went very well. She liked how Barton explained things a little slower than her previous tutor which helped her grasp things a bit better. We will be using him again!Heather, 4 lessons with Barton

Great tutor for Trig
Barton is an excellent tutor. Is is easy to communicate with. Scheduling had been easy and flexible. What I appreciate most is his ability to work with my child. They use the online tool from Wyzant which works well with the interactive white board. He does a good job of figuring out her level of understanding. He teaches skills and strategies. He does not do the work for her. He understands he needs to teach her how to tackle the problems.Jennifer, 12 lessons with BartonTutor responded:
Thanks for the review! It's truly been a pleasure working with your daughter!

Barton is an excellent tutor. He keeps my boys engaged and not only taught my boys the process but carefully explained HOW and WHY the math works which I feel is really important when learning basic math. Thank you, Barton! Highly recommended!Jill, 20 lessons with BartonTutor responded:
