Patient and Experienced Mathematics Tutor

I have been working as a professional tutor for over 10 years. I studied mathematics at the University of Arkansas with a focus on pure and applied mathematics. I went to high-school at ASMSA, which is a two-year residential program run by the U of A that offers college level classes. My professors along with the unconventional courses offered from this school gave me the motivation to become a tutor. I believed that since I was pursuing a higher education in math it was important for me to solidify the fundamentals. What better way to do this than through teaching it to others? I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to share something that has been so important to me while also getting to watch students discover how truly beautiful math is. My top goal is to have my students look forward to the next session as they might not the class or especially the homework!
Throughout my years of experience I have worked with students from 1st grade to those in a master degree program. I have also homeschooled students and helped adults who are returning to school. I've had students in each US time zone as well as internationally so I'm familiar with the spectrum of teaching styles and standards in the field as a whole.
My approach to tutoring is to begin by evaluating the current math level of a student and then setting a series of goals to achieve going forward. From there I encourage consistent and disciplined study. I am open to reviewing a student's work outside of sessions and going over any mistakes or points of interest I find in the work. I can present any given problem in numerous ways until we find one that works best. My strongest skill is being able to really pay attention to a student and see problems from their perspective. I can tell if they actually understand the material or just happen to be nodding their head along. Not only do I strive to make them understand their current material but I'm constantly focused on how it will show up later.
Excellent geometry tutor
Excellent mastery of subject matter (10th grade geometry). Covers a lot of material during the lesson with an encouraging and constructive tone and enthusiasm. My daughter is looking forward to working with Barton.Peter, 9 lessons with BartonTutor responded:

Above & Beyond!
This was my second time meeting with Barton. He is my first online tutor that I've ever used as I had trouble learning precalculus during this pandemic. Each time he has went above and beyond to help answer all of my questions. He truly wants to make sure that you understand the material. The way he breaks down pre calculus in an easier way is unmatched. I'm so happy that I found a great tutor online who is really knowledgeable. He is my go to now!Tekuam, 2 lessons with Barton
Gave my son an instant boost to his motivation!
I highly recommend! My son has been struggling for sometime on comprehension. He has the ability, but has not had it explained to him in a way that he understood it. I highly recommend him! We will keep scheduling sessions!Valerie , 8 lessons with BartonTutor responded:

GREAT MATH TUTOR
Barton has gotten my son through Finite math and now is helping him in Calculus. It is an online class and if it were not for Barton, he would really be struggling. Barton truly cares and is always willing to help my son. I can NOT say enough about him. Great great math tutor!!!Katie, 28 lessons with Barton
Very helpful and understanding.
Barton always tries to relate what he is teaching to what I'm interested in. He isn't hesitant to show a better way of solving a problem. He has really helped me grasp some things that are difficult. He always makes sure we're on the same page and I've grasped the concept that he's taught me.Monique, 17 lessons with BartonTutor responded:
I've enjoyed working with you too! It's always a better experience when we can relate math to other topics in ways you don't normally have a chance to in school!
Very Helpful Tutor
Barton helped me understand slope intercept and was very patient, informative, and helpful. The thing I liked most about Barton is that he wrote the problem and explained it step by step and in detail so that it was easy for me to comprehend.Melinda, 7 lessons with BartonTutor responded:
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad that you found the session beneficial!
So patient and clear! We are so grateful!
Mr. Barton has been amazing! He has been working with our VERY shy 11 year old daughter in math. She had an academically rough year last year and started this year seriously lacking confidence especially in math. She wanted to excel but felt like she was too far behind to catch up. Mr. Barton is so patient and encouraging with her. There is no pressure, he will go over the same thing as many times as is necessary and will explain it in different terms until she get it. He speaks her language! She has made all A's this year and is feeling very positive. I hear from her now that she "gets it" she "can do this"! She even asks him questions! THAT IS HUGE!! What an awesome change! I am so grateful!Christine, 15 lessons with BartonTutor responded:
That makes me very happy to hear! She's a wonderful student and a pleasure to work with.
