Hey my name is Barton T. and I have been working as a professional tutor for three years. I am currently heading into my senior year for my mathematics degree at the University of Arkansas. I graduated high-school from ASMSA, which is a two-year residential program run by the U of A administrative system that offers college level classes. My professors along with the unconventional courses offered from this school gave me the extra nudge into the field of mathematics that motivated me to become a tutor. I believed that since I was pursuing a higher education in mathematics that it was very important for me to go back to the fundamentals and solidify them. What better way to do this than through teaching it to others? I have come to enjoy tutoring because I love seeing that "aha!" moment on a student's face when they finally understand a troublesome concept. It is one of my top goals as a tutor to make my students look forward to the next session as they might not the class or especially the homework!

As I mentioned above, I am pursing a degree in pure mathematics. I enjoy this branch of mathematics because it involves modeling real world systems and problems. I have found that math is more appealing to me and the majority of my students when the numbers have an actual meaning attached to them. I have taken two years of architecture courses as well and learned a great deal about sketching and looking at problems in terms of the whole as well as its pieces. I have applied this to my teaching and rely heavily on sketches as well as models in some instances. One of my most useful tools for teaching is my white board and colored expo markers which I bring to every session. The use of several colors and a large surface make it easy for me to clearly portray the whole problem as well as each step involved within it. For long term students I encourage a folder specifically for our sessions that I help keep organized according to that student's specific learning style.

I do want to make it known that I take

Calculus

In high school I scored a 5 on my AP BC Calculus exam. I went on to Cal III my freshman year and also began tutoring calculus and other mathematics that semester. Since then I have studied differential equations and advanced calculus within the real and complex planes. The combined education and experience has helped me obtain new perspectives on the subject and allows me to quickly see where you are having problems.

Discrete Math

I am a senior mathematics major with a physics minor. I took discrete several years back and came out with an A. I use this area of mathematics fairly often and I am very familiar with the material.
Logic

Logic

I have taken and completed a math logic course with an A. It's was one of my mathematics major degree requirements and I have used logic extensively since in the pursuit of elementary to advanced math proofs. It is a subject I have put many hours into and devoted countless sheets of paper to logical equivalence tables; as a result I feel very comfortable teaching it.

Very helpful and understanding.

Barton always tries to relate what he is teaching to what I'm interested in. He isn't hesitant to show a better way of solving a problem. He has really helped me grasp some things that are difficult. He always makes sure we're on the same page and I've grasped the concept that he's taught me.

I've enjoyed working with you too! It's always a better experience when we can relate math to other topics in ways you don't normally have a chance to in school!

Very Helpful Tutor

Barton helped me understand slope intercept and was very patient, informative, and helpful. The thing I liked most about Barton is that he wrote the problem and explained it step by step and in detail so that it was easy for me to comprehend.

So patient and clear! We are so grateful!

Mr. Barton has been amazing! He has been working with our VERY shy 11 year old daughter in math. She had an academically rough year last year and started this year seriously lacking confidence especially in math. She wanted to excel but felt like she was too far behind to catch up. Mr. Barton is so patient and encouraging with her. There is no pressure, he will go over the same thing as many times as is necessary and will explain it in different terms until she get it. He speaks her language! She has made all A's this year and is feeling very positive. I hear from her now that she "gets it" she "can do this"! She even asks him questions! THAT IS HUGE!! What an awesome change! I am so grateful!

That makes me very happy to hear! She's a wonderful student and a pleasure to work with.

Thorough and listened well

My daughter's first lesson went very well. She liked how Barton explained things a little slower than her previous tutor which helped her grasp things a bit better. We will be using him again!

Knowledgeable and friendly tutor

Geometry and statistics. He was friendly and positive. Thank you for also being organized and prepared for the advanced, accelerated geometry and algebra two lesson with my son.

Great tutor for Trig

Barton is an excellent tutor. Is is easy to communicate with. Scheduling had been easy and flexible. What I appreciate most is his ability to work with my child. They use the online tool from Wyzant which works well with the interactive white board. He does a good job of figuring out her level of understanding. He teaches skills and strategies. He does not do the work for her. He understands he needs to teach her how to tackle the problems.
