As the grandchild of a teacher, I have always known I wanted to teach and always known that teaching could be both incredibly rewarding and incredibly fun. I’ve been teaching for over 10 years now, and I still feel that way! Several years ago, I started tutoring in addition to my career as a university instructor, because I knew that instructing one-on-one was a way for me to offer students the in-depth, intense help that I couldn’t give in the classroom. I found that I really enjoy tutoring and deeply value the relationships I am able to build with students – their accomplishments and triumphs are mine as well!
I hold degrees in English, linguistics, writing studies, Portuguese, and Brazilian Studies and have taught all areas of English, writing, speech, and language arts. I also have experience teaching Religious studies and Critical Thinking skills and have tutored students from age five to 19 in all of these fields and more. I’ve helped kindergartners master the reading abilities they needed for their level and assisted high school seniors in conquering their ACTs in order to win scholarships. I always loved learning; now I love to share that passion and encourage that desire for knowledge with others.
I know that to connect with a student, you can’t just be an expert in your topic; you have to engage them. Learning can always be active and fun if approached with the right attitude. And I enjoy finding ways to reach the unique learners in ways that will work for them.
I want my clients to be happy with my services – parents and students. I try to be as flexible as possible: I understand that situations arise that require last minute cancellations, so I have a 4-hour cancellation policy and allow make-up classes. If clients are not fully satisfied with me, I will not bill for that session. I am also happy to travel to several different local spots for sessions, depending on client preference.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve academic success!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
