I am a dyslexia therapist, (Certified Academic Language Therapist), so I specialize in teaching phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. I understand and address learning differences. I am certified in kindergarten-6th grade in all subjects, K-college in reading (reading specialist), and 4th-12th grades in special education. I have taught at every level, and I have 31 years of experience teaching in public and private schools.
For dyslexia therapy, I use the Take Flight/Shelton Academic Reading Approach. I am also a certified Barton Reading and Spelling System tutor. Both of these methods are top rated Orton/Gillingham approaches. I teach the structure of language using an explicit, cumulative, intensive approach involving multisensory learning which will use visual, auditory, and tactile-kinesthetic pathways simultaneously to enhance learning.
In any tutoring situation, I would first find out my student's strengths and weaknesses and then create a plan to produce the best results. If it is appropriate and agreeable with the parent, I would coordinate my plan with the classroom teacher by contacting her through e-mail.
Please contact me through Wyzant.com, and I would be happy to meet with you to discuss a learning plan for you or your child. Your first consultation and lesson will be at a reduced rate.
