This will be my 10th year teaching. I can't imagine a more rewarding profession. I get to make a difference in the lives of my students daily. I really love working one on one with students and feel that I see the most growth in this teaching setting, which is why I really enjoy tutoring. I have worked with all different types of students, ranging from 1st to 4th grade, many with special needs and/or many learning English as their second language. I am certified to teach Pre-K through 4th grade and I am also ESL certified Pre-K through 8th grade.
I specialize in elementary math and science, but also teach reading/phonics, writing/grammar, and can assist with teaching elementary math/science homeschool curriculum. Tutoring for elementary test prep (such as PARCC, ACT Aspire, etc.) is also available upon request.
I customize my tutoring sessions to each person's needs, as well as listen to concerns/requests and do my best to accommodate them. For example, some parents may desire homework for their children after the session, others may not. I will provide whatever materials and resources are necessary to make the learning experience a success. I will take periodic assessments and create a portfolio for each student to show growth they have made throughout the sessions.
I am usually available Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm. Within a reasonable distance, I can travel to my students and also host lessons at my home. I am also happy to meet at a neutral location or do lessons online.
I have taught deparmentalized 4th grade math and science for the last two years and have taught 7 years of all subjects 1st through 4th grade before that. I have completed numerous math trainings to gain new skills and ideas to improve my math instruction.
I am a certified teacher who has taught guided reading and whole group reading lessons for many years. Even when I switched to primarily math/science, we still taught reading for a 30 minute chunk daily in groups.
I am a certified PreK through 4th grade teacher who has worked with a wide variety of students and has helped them to overcome many challenges along the way. Every child can learn if given time and the right support.
Phonics is a crucial aspect of teaching reading and has always been embedded in my guided reading lessons as an elementary teacher.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified Pre-K through 4th grade teacher and I have been teaching the Common Core standards for the past 4 years.
