Hello, my name is Cullen I. I'm a Junior at The University of Alabama, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, while also working towards my MBA. I'm from Kalamazoo originally, but ended up in Alabama due to a full academic scholarship. Currently I'm employed as an associate engineer by Quest Global, in conjunction with Pratt and Whitney, and will be returning to Alabama in the fall to finish my degree.

I've tutored between Kalamazoo and Tuscaloosa for most of my college career, either through Wyzant or other services. I've helped people of all different age ranges and backgrounds, from elementary students to college kids to adults. I'm very comfortable and confident that I can help in any way I'm needed to enhance my student's learning. Since I am still a college student, I very much understand the need for a late night study session or short notice help. I also understand that paying a tutor can be difficult on a college budget. Therefore, I try to make myself available at almost all hours, and can adjust my rate if the student truly needs it.

While many engineers may struggle with subjects related to English and communication, these are areas I thrive in. Last year my professor, TA, and fellow students selected me to compete in several public speaking competitions with cash prizes of up to $10,000. Additionally, essays I've assisted on have helped net several scholarships, college acceptances, and high letter grades. While I may follow a career that emphasizes math and science, I still place incredible value on the spoken and written word.

If you have an questions, please feel free to contact me. I do my best to respond within a day, if not much sooner.

Chess

I've been an avid chess player since the third grade. I've taught many people of many different ages how to play the game, and am confident I can teach anyone. I often begin by playing a noncompetitive game of chess, teaching the rules as the game progresses. This allows students to be active and engaged in the game. I continue to play multiple games in this noncompetitive way until the student has a good grasp upon the rules of chess. We then engage in more serious matches, to help develop a strategy. We continue playing these serious matches until the student is beating me every other game, or more, proving they have a great understanding of the game.

Cullen is great.

I've only worked with Cullen for a few sessions but I must say that I'm "Impressed" with his patience and understanding of the material. He's knowledgeable and was able to make me understand concepts that I'd never grasped before. I look forward to Cullen helping me more and I recommend him to anyone needing a good math tutor.
