About Jon

Hi everyone,

My name is Jon. I have a good bit of experience tutoring mathematics, as I was a tutor for University of Alabama's Center for Teaching and Learning (now called Center for Academic success) for four continuous years. I actually really enjoy teaching, and I think it shows, as I had a lot of repeat business when I worked for the Center for Teaching and Learning. I am considered by students I've tutored to be excellent at breaking down complicated concepts and simplifying them so anyone can understand them. As for my education, I graduated with a BS (summa cum laude) in Applied Mathematics from the University of Alabama in 2011. One thing that I think particularly helps me to be an effective tutor is that I have very strong verbal skills.

As for my availability, most days, I will have to tutor at night since I do have a full time job that takes up most of my time during the day. I'm usually available after 8 pm most days of the week, but there are two days a week that I'm off I could also tutor during the daytime on my off days (although my days off vary week to week). I'm available for quick one hour sessions, as well as multihour cram sessions, if necessary.

Roll Tide!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Logic

My freshman year at University of Alabama, I took Honors Deductive Logic (PHL103), and finished the class with an A plus. The following year, I was selected to be a Teaching Assistant for the course, for which I received 3 hours of college credit. I was then asked to be a Teaching Assistant for that class for two more semesters, and I was compensated for those semesters.
