University of Alabama (Enrolled)
I'm currently a graduate student at the University of Alabama. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry in 2011 from Lawrence University, WI and worked at the DuPont Experimental Station in Delaware as an Associate Investigator.
As a graduate student I teach a lab class every semester and also tutor one or two students during the course of the semester.
During my undergraduate years, I was a course content tutor for Chemistry and worked for the Center of Teaching and Learning at my university. I tutored from my sophomore year till I graduated. Though I mainly tutored on one-on-one basis, I also have experience in holding study sessions for several students at a time.
In my time working in Delaware, I also tutored a couple of elementary and high school students in Math and Chemistry.
I am very interactive in my tutoring approach. I strive to make my tutoring sessions very easy-going and relaxed.
The students I tutored all reported positive improvements as time went on. I'm currently a graduate student at the University of Alabama. David is an excellent tutor and so patient with my 16 year old son. He has made chemistry fun! He is also VERY flexible with his schedule and has fit me in during his weekends. I am only sorry he doesn't tutor more subjects.
David and my son have developed a very good working relationship. He has taught him alternate ways of looking at math problems and helped him with homework and gives him work to do during the week. Their system is working very well.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
From elementary to College level Algebra courses
I took the Organic Chemistry sequence (I & II) and also Advanced Organic Chemistry during my time as an undergraduate student.
Organic Chemistry is mainly study of the relationship between structure and function in organic compounds and also a study of organic reactions and their mechanisms. Organic I outlined basic topics such as molecular orbital theory, conformational equilibria, stereochemistry, and nucleophilic substitution are covered. Organic II and Advanced Organic focused on synthesis, both in the concrete sense of building molecules and in the abstract sense of pulling together disparate concepts to solve problems.
